I well remember the discussion about projected routes for I-40 from Knoxville, TN through the NC mountains, over to Asheville, NC .... the route chosen wasn't the one recommended by engineers and once again a large rock slide has closed it .... hopefully, this slide can be cleared and I-40 will reopen soon .... sadly, its only a question of time before history will repeat itself yet again

Sometimes when we have gone to SC to visit the daughter and family,
we have traveled that way.
The wife really doesn't like driving/ridin through the Mtns one bit.

We went through there a 2 years back just a couple days after a snow.
The road was fine, but the snow was close to the road and everywhere of course.
She was terrified. I was driving like 50, and almost being run over and she's wanting me to slow down.
