Heading to Baltimore the end of March. Dr Who convention. Clovispup and I went last year and had a great time. All of the guests were classic series actors/actresses. It was great having a chance to see and meet some of the people we felt like we had come to know. Some, like Frazer Hines (Jamie), were a hoot.

Highlights this year are Sylvester McCoy (7th Doctor), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), and Karen Gillian (Amy Pond). We're hoping they add a few more classic folks.

That sounds like a fun event. I wouldn't mind attending a Trek convention. I hope you enjoy it as much as last year.

It can be a little geeky, but we are really big fans of Dr Who, so it was lots of fun.

After the con was over, I went down to the lobby for something. I saw one of the actresses from the second Doctor (aired late 60s). She was obviously waiting for transportation. I went over to quickly thank her for the great time we all had. She spent about 5 to 10 minutes talking to me. Very nice, classy lady. Ironically, she said that the American audiences were more polite than British. I would have thought it was the opposite.

Those conventions are lots of fun. Went to a Trek one years ago.

You should be geeky. I have my Star Trek stuff in he man cave proudly displayed. I have my bluetooth communicator that I sometimes use with my phone. Fun is fun. Geeks Unite! lol

I've never actually "got" Dr Who, but I have seen a few clips of the conventions, and they look really brilliant. I hope you have a great day out!

I had seen a little of the classic Dr Who episodes back in the day. I wasn't impressed. My daughter got hooked on the newer episodes that started in 2005. I started watching them with her. The format and production values were completely different. I got hooked, and then we became interested in the classic episodes. We actually prefer many of the older shows, cheesy special effects and all.

Baltimore is getting big into these kinds of events.

A couple of years ago they started hosting the "Bronies". Grown men into "My little pony"!? Now that one I don't get!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we were talking about Dr Who, but it seems to have taken a left turn at Albuquerque.

Sorry about that. I was just commenting on Balt pursuing the fantasy convention business. But that stuff often does make an unexpected turn.

This is really a specialty thing. Some folks are into Comic books, Some Dr. Who, Some Star Trek ect. It's all good.

But this did remind me of the Brony thing. The 1st one got a lot of local press. As does the Comic-con.

Ok, back to Dr.Who....I have only ever seen a few episodes long long ago with an actor named Tom Baker (?) at least I think that's "who" it was. But it has a huge following. There is a small restaurant in town near us and the young lady serving there has a phone booth tattoo on her arm that has something to do with Dr. Who.

Tom Baker would be right. He was the longest running Doctor, and perhaps one of the most iconic of the classic Doctors. His bushy hair and super long knitted scarf were his trademarks. The show saw a huge jump in popularity here in the US when the show rebooted in 2005. It started in 1963 and went off the air from 1989 until it rebooted with a modern format.

The classic series can sometimes be a little cheesy with the special effects and monster costumes. The writing and acting, as well as the concept tends to draw a lot of us in, and we just embrace the cheesy.

FWIW, that tattoo would be a British police box, called the Tardis on the show. Common misconception that it is a phone box. They do look somewhat similar.

I recall now she said Tardis. Cool info. Dr Who and the Daleks sticks in my mind because I used to read "Famous Monsters of Filmland" magazine in the 60's and they often had photos from it.
