if things go as planned, next week on Wed the 17th seven members of our family plus a friend of our oldest grandson will head to South Dakota for a week's vacation ..... early on the morning of the 17th Maureen, our oldest grandson and one of his friends plan to head west in our Chevy 2500 .... later that afternoon our youngest son and his wife will head west in their Chevy 1500 .... a day later our daughter and her son are scheduled to fly out there .... while out there we will stay in a Air B&B .... that will be a first for us .... while there we plan to attend the Estelline Rodeo --- https://estellinerodeo.com/index.html .... in addition, the ladies have a bunch of other things planned .... those who have followed our trips out there since 1977 know that our family really enjoys the beef steaks we get at the butcher shop in the local grocery store ... the reason we will drive out trucks out there for this trip is so we can bring back several thousand dollars worth of steaks and other cuts of meat .... this will be our first out of state trip in our truck and we are looking forward seeing how she performs .... we plan to spend one night on the road during the drive out there .... our son and his wife plan to drive straight through

Monday June 15th .... much of this afternoon and evening will be spent organizing things we intend to take with us .... tomorrow they will be packed .... we now have the items needed to move the carrier on the back of our camper and mount it to our trucks 2.5" receiver

June 20th .... we are once again in Estelline, SD where we are settled into our first Air B & B .... as can be seen below we are a block from the rodeo grounds .... last night the place was packed and from the looks of things, tonight will have an even larger crowd .... happy to report that on our 1,600+ mile drive out here the only issues we had were slow slow downs for road construction .... learned a bunch about our new truck's performance that I will cover in a separate post .... right now most of our family is involved in a 5K run .... they will be back here for omelets afterwards .... so, I have to get ready

66 @ 9:44AM Central Time with a forecasted high of 75 followed by a low tonight of 60 in Estelline, SD .... back home in central NC the temp right now is 82 with a RealFeel of 100, forecasted high 94 followed by an overnight low of 71 .... yep, we really like it out here .. .. our group has split into small groups and are going in many directions .... some playing golf, some touring South Dakota State University, come working out, and I'm unsure where some others are .... according to our truck's computer we've covered 1,661 miles since leaving home .... our average speed has been 58 mph and the truck has gotten 15.3 mpg .... cheapest gasoline was $3.339 per gallon at a truck stop near the Missouri-Iowa border .... haven't heard an attendance for last weekend's, estimates are running well over 1,000 spectators per night .... not bad for a town of 800

72 in Estelline, SD @ noon Central Time on Tuesday, June 23 .... they day our temp will climb a couple of more degrees before dropping back to an overnight low of 54 .... breezy this morning with a 12 mph (gusting to 22 mph) wind out of the SW .... kind of a mixed weather day with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm; otherwise, some sun, then clouds; gusty winds and small hail can accompany any downpour .... nothing showing on weather radar but they say rain will start in 20 minutes and last for about an hour .... most of our group has gone out west of town to visit a relatives farm that covers thousands of acres

67 @ 10AM on Wed June 24th, our next to last day in Estelline, SD, under a mostly blue with scattered high, billowing clouds .... forecasted high 75 followed by an overnight low of 51 .... following a good griddled breakfast of local sausage, eggs and cinnamon rolls our group has once again split in various directions .... some north to Watertown to the go-kart track, some to the southwest to play golf, some to the south shopping while I'm happily left with the dogs at the our home base ....

well, we are back home .... a few stats ---

our round trip drive from home in central NC to Maureen's home area in eastern SD covered 3,337.1 miles .... our average speed was 59.2 mph ....

highest cruise control set speed --- 86 mph on I-29 in SD where the interstate posted speed limit is 80 mph

average MPG for the entire trip --- 15.0

best average MPH for a 50 mile stretch ---- 20 mpg

longest drive ---- returned trip leaving Estelline, SD at 5:45AM on Friday June 26th and arriving home Saturday June 27 at 7AM

we really enjoyed our 8 day visit to Estelline and they passed all too quickly
