Driving Miss Daisy: Dec 2022 -Florida

Post by Sir Henry » Fri Dec 02, 2022 8:48 am

I leave Monday for a 16 day trip to Florida and parts south. I’m not really sure where we will end up. I will de driving my neighbor Norma and her daughter Linda to their time-share and visiting her relatives along the way.

We will return December 21st and will leave again for Texas December 26th. The Florida trip will be in my Subaru and we might take my motor home to Texas as we will be gone for a month.

I’ve gotten “Mummie” addicted to lattes and I pick her up almost every morning on my way to Java Journey.

Gene, that's fantastic that you are getting along so well in your new surroundings. "Mummie" looks regal in that photograph.
Safe travels to your destiny.

Mummie is a joy to be around. She is always positive yet not above playing a trick on you.

Company on long trips is always a blessing, especially positive cpmpany. The wrong company can turn it into torture. Sounds like you will be in for a fine journey.

Safe travels Gene. Mummy’s sure got a twinkle in her eyes. I can see some mischievous thoughts behind them. :D

Many years ago we took an elderly neighbor with us on our yearly fishing trip to Canada. He read every road sign out loud for 600 miles.

Day 1: Yesterday we headed out about noon and got to our destination about six. We only had to go about 250 miles to pick up her daughter. Along the way we visited her grandson, DIL and grandkids. They own a huge barn and have weddings there. It’s big enough for 500 guests and is very upscale.

We have a map with all the relatives marked.

Mummie and daughter Linda are really fun to be around. We all act like kids.

Day 2: we made it to the KY/TN state line in a heavy rain. At least it’s 59F instead of 3F like back home.

Day 3: we make it to Atlanta in the pouring rain after having a 50 mile detour. Glad to be somewhere where we will stay for two nights. I’m almost sorry I got Norma (alias Mummie, alias Miss Daisy) addicted to lattes. She spots and points out all the coffee shops.

This is where Mummie fell on from the latter while painting the shed in the picture. She is a great storyteller and can tell a two minute story in twenty minutes.

With daughter Linda the three of us are having a blast. Linda and I have taken on the roles of siblings and I call her my big sister.

Day 4: We spent the day visiting my adopted cousin George and hit wife Pat. They are really nice folks and have a beautiful home near Atlanta. Then we took a drive and saw the local sights. This is a wonderful area with lots of Civil War history.

Cousin George, Mummie Norma, sister Linda and me overlooking Atlanta in the far distance

Today we have a 460 mile drive to Daytona Beach where we will spend seven days and nights in a vacation rental. We will be overlooking the beach and near a lot of tourist attractions.

Day 5: We will be on the beach in Florida for the next week. We are staying at the Windham Beach Resort in Daytona Beach. This place is twice the size of my house and very luxurious.

It’s currently 81F with a low tonight of 63. It sure beats the -3F and snow that we left.
