Well I have the same issue as Jake does in both ears. When I got back from Texas I checked into aids at the University of Northern Colorado audiology clinic. I went to s study there which I was given a gift card for and was told they would call me for aids. They never did. I then waited to long to go to Costco so I still have no aids. Costco now is a 3 month wait here to get in. Oh well.

Al, Medicare supplement paid 50% of mine. If that helps. Good luck.

It will probably still be a 3 month wait come spring so if you make your appt now you can have your answers come February. I know it is not a priority for you at this point, but if you can get a pair that work for you they aren't a pain to wear and being able to understand speech when you want is pleasurable. I hear so many things that I forgot make noise like birds, rain on the roof, crickets and tree frogs in the summer and what a noisy world we live in :o. I don't hardly notice wearing mine so I have to make a point of checking for them before getting in the shower and remembering to remove them at night. I am glad I got them and pleased the technology is so much improved from my first pair in the 80s. Those I hated.

Thanks Ernie for the info. Im headed to Texas a week from today until April 1st when I return. At some point I will give a call and make an appointment to get in. I may call here locally tomorrow and see what they might offer in the mean time. Ive had one hearing aid already for a few years but its now dead. I know my wife cant wait for me to get some because shes giving me that look alot.

Ok I've been procrastinating on this for almost a year. I said I was going at the beginning of 2021 and never did. Today my wife and I were shopping at Costco and I stopped at their audiology department. They were busy and a typical appointment was about a month out. The nice young lady informed me that if I could do a Sunday appointment, they have a spot open this coming Sunday at 2:30 pm. I'm on the books and I will report back when everything is complete.

If they determine that you need aids they will probably offer to program and let you try a pair in the store. I was amazed at what I was missing with the new technology.
Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks Ernie. I will report back after my trip there Sunday. I'm sure I need hearing aids. My hearing is most definitely sub standard.

I gave into the need this last summer. I have a set of Starkey aids. They have helped a lot. Normal hearing loss is greatly improved.

I have not noticed the Tinnitus being as bad.

My 37 cents worth. Medicare paid half the cost.

Completed my visit to Costco for the hearing test. After testing and discussing my results, the technician programed a set of hearing aids for me to try. I spent 15 minutes walking the store and chatting with the nice ladies giving samples of products. All I can say is AMAZING!!! I hadn't realized how much I was missing.

I jumped several times because I heard someone behind me. I thought they were about to bump into me. When I turned and looked they were well over 10 feet away. I could hear conversations from shoppers as thy passed by - never did before.

I will be calling Costco to set up a final filing and training session first thing Monday morning. I should have them before Christmas. Cost will be $1399.

That story sounds very familiar. The new technology is pretty wonderful. It isn't perfect but it made a large difference in my life. It can be a bit frustrating in loud environments but then it is anyway without the aids. Hope everything works out for you.
Have a Merry Christmas.

At 3 months out you might just set a date and lock in an appointment. I'd still be procrastinating if I didn't lock in something.

UPDATE:

Just checked with my health insurance plan and as of Jan. 1, 2022 they will now cover my hear aid purchase. Before this they only covered the exam, but that was no charge since I'm a Costco member. So I was scheduled to get them on 12/16/21, but I contacted Costco and pushed that date out to 1/6/22. Not sure how much they will cover but whatever it is, it's better than nothing. :D

The day of reckoning has arrived!!! I picked up my hearing aids today from Costco and have been wearing them since noon. All I can say is there is a world out there I have been missing for way too long. I cannot see ever going back to life with them. Best $1399.99 I've ever spent. (Well maybe buying another Henry might run a very close second.)

Here are some of my first observations:
- DIdn't know the turn signals in my truck made a clicking sound when flashing.
- Several people told me the blower on my gas fireplace in my man cave made too much noise ... hmmm guess they were right.
- Siri talks too loud in my truck (had to turn volume down).
- Can now hear my wife call me in man cave from upstairs. (Can no longer ignore faint sounds I once heard.) ;)
- I can now watch Youtube videos and TV and hear both, instead of a garbled mess. :o

There's plenty more but you get the idea - they work great!

Ernie you are correct. I've had them for about 4 weeks now and I can't imagine how I could do without them.

Thank you for being one of the driving forces for me to get them.
