We stopped by the garden center and picked up some plants to spruce up the front of the house. I am partial to roses, always liked them. We had some climbing roses in VA called Joseph's Coats, that bloomed yellow, then changed to Red or Pink. We bought a couple of those. We had knockout roses as a fence line down the drive. They had knockouts in Coral, an orange color. Hadn't seen those before... a couple of those went in the truck. Put those in front of the porch. The outside roses are the climbing Joseph Coat bushes. The inside are the non climbing Coral Knockouts.


The Joseph's Coat Roses are starting to bloom already.


You can see on the edges of the yellow blooms, the red starting to bleed in.


We already had roses below the windows on the brick faced wall, alternating red and yellow non climbing. Tina added some ground cover that will eventually cover the shavings she added to control the grass and weeds in the beds. In a month or so, it should all look snazzy.


When we go out again, we'll likely pick up something to use as borders for the beds. Stone or wood. We'll want to keep the grass out and the mulch/shavings in.

Once the climbing roses get some height on them, they can be trained to climb all over the railings on the porch. They ran all over the lattice on the porch at the farm in VA.


It's clear in this picture how the blooms start yellow, go through changes and end up red and pink.

I love roses, too. This past Monday, a friend took me to the popular Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park in Hartford for a picnic lunch. Of course, the gardens are simply beautiful -- even in their various stages of blooming. We had a great time.

That's a nice arrangement, planting the climbing roses behind the bushy ones along side the steps.

I'm not familiar with the Joseph's Coat Roses, but our knockouts have always done extremely well.

Very nice reflection in the front door.

They are blooming a bit. The red roses under the windows on the brick wall showing some color but the yellows are staying shy.


The coral knockout and the original yellow rose bush have bloomed and are showing some color as well.


Joseph's Coat has a yellow initial bloom and one that has transitioned to a pink(ish) hue.


The day lilies around the flagpole are a few days past their prime, but still add color. There are new buds in the group.
We replaced the worn flags someone commented on in a previous post. The Oklahoma winds kill the flags in a short period, once the ends get too frayed, I swap them. I get about six to eight weeks max. Tina orders two of each when she orders, and we have them in our Favorites Folder on Amazon...


There's always Somthing.....

The roses are doing well. The joseph's coat is spreading and filling out. Multiple blooms. Fiona came out on the porch to check them out.


One of the yellow roses bloomed.


One of the red bushes busted out, or should I say "Came Out" and surprised us... "Surprise, I'm Pink!"
"I don't care if my tag says red, I identify as pink, I gotta be me."


Still pretty...

Although the other bud looks like it may be coming out red. So, the bush may be Bi... colored.

The coral roses are in FULL bloom and look awesome, and the Joseph's Coats are looking great. I was afraid the Coral Roses weren't going to recover from the transplant.


In front of the brick, the Yellows are killing it, but the reds are on break, can't all bloom at once to give me a great pic of the front of the house... But Tina's raised beds are doing great. The cukes and beans are rocking. Cukes thick as a bat and 12" or longer... lots of string beans.


The tomatoes are coming in great. She is harvesting gallon bags of cherry tomatoes every few days, but the larger tomatoes are just starting to produce. Look hard, they are toward the center of that bed. The Flowers on the left end of the bed are growing like weeds, only prettier. She puts them in vases around the house to brighten the place up, and gives them to friends. When our friend comes to pick up eggs for his family, he gets bags of cherry tomatoes and cukes.



Tina likes to stay busy, and can't stand to sit and relax... this garden helps her do that.
The beans went well with steak and baked potatoes last night.
