I am going to put a scope on my Model X and I am looking at the Hammer extensions. I have settled on the Carlson round extension, or the Ranger Point cupped thumb extension. I have never used an extension. In looking at them my thought is that the Ranger Point offer the best hammer control, less chance of hammer slipping if hands are slippery with sweat or rain. Any of your thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

I'll be using one for the first time with my Henry 6.5 come deer season. It actually came with the purchase of the rifle, so why not try it out?

I've had both as well, it's a coin toss. Purely for looks and cool factor I like the ranger point

The extensions I have are from Grovtec. I've not had a thumb slip.

Ditto to what Mags stated. No slip with a wet or cold thumb. The set screw keeps it in place,

I've got both the Carlson ambi and the Grovtec on a couple of my single shot H015's. The only issue I've had is that the scoped .357 occasionally pierced primers after adding the Grovtec. Could that extra ounce or two add enough momentum to hit primers hard enough to pierce them? This only happened a few times and always with mild plinking loads and standard small pistol primers. Since I own a couple N-frame .357 Smiths that have also caused pierced primers the solution was simple. I use magnum small pistol primers now, even with these low pressure loads. My .44 mag and .223 H015's have never had an issue and the other .357 SS has a red dot and no extension and no pierced primers. FWIW

I have both and have zero issues with either.
I like the older Marlin original style best as far as looks go.
But for function both work great.

My Marlin 336W, with scope, came with an extension. My Henry H009 did not. I suspect an extension could come in handy, when using an scope. Honestly, I forget that the Marlin has an hammer extension, when I do lower the hammer, using my thumb.

Looking to add one to my 357. My old eyes don't handle iron sights well anymore.

The Henry supplied Carlson ambidextrous works a treat. There won’t be any issues with slipping.

Put the Ranger Point Precision on my Big Boy 44mag and really like it. Cold, wet, whatever thumb will definitely not slip.
