Henry Customer Service

Post by sspistol » Thu Feb 06, 2020 10:38 am

Bought my first Henry rifle in October. A Single Shot 45-70 with irresistible wood. I really like these Henry Single Shots. But, as I thought that it might, it had a fairly heavy trigger, and also had the initial creep or 'glitch' that others have noted. The glitch bothers me more than the heavier than ideal pull weight. With Henry's good Customer Service reputation, and having read a few posts about others getting the glitch resolved thru Henry or on their own, and having tried the triggers on a few Henry's that did not have this glitch issue, I took a chance on another Henry Single Shot with nice wood in 30-30 caliber ordered thru Reeds Outdoors. It has a perfectly crisp glitch free trigger out of the box; of course still heavier than ideal, but I was pleased with the crisp release. So, with a Return Authorization from Henry, I returned my 45-70 with a request to eliminate the initial glitch. They received the rifle one Friday, I received it back the following Friday. Glitch is completely eliminated, and both the trigger and hammer pulls are noticeably lighter; now in a head-to-head comparison with my 30-30, the 45-70 is much better. I now consider the 45-70 hammer and trigger pull to be entirely satisfactory. A buddy has a trigger pull gauge, I will check both rifles and update this note when I have a chance. I consider this overall Henry Customer Service episode to be excellent, and I am now on the outlook for a great wood 243 or 308 or ......

Welcome from the Show-Me-State, SS!
Would be nice to see some photos of that "irresistible wood." That's always a special part of a Henry-built rifle.

Welcome from Iowa. Glad to hear Henry resolved your stinky trigger. The crisp trigger break was just one feature that impressed me when I first inspected my H010 .45-70.

Thanks for all of the responses. I will add my rifle info to the other threads as suggested. I am attempting to show a couple of pictures here as was also suggested ..... but I don't believe my method for attaching the photos will work??? We'll see.

.... well, dang, what do you know, they did work!! Both rifles have Warne bases and low Warne rings .... not much spare room for the scopes in this configuration, but I believe they fit. Maybe we can get Henry to come offer us a lower profile hammer? ---

Welcome Aboard! They look great! Maybe that's partly because they look just like mine, right down to the scopes ;) .

Thanks for the feedback. I updated the HowMany thread.

Also checked the trigger pull weight on the 30-30 out of the box and the Henry 'fixed' 45-70. The 45-70 breaks crisp at about 4.5-5 lbs with a much lighter hammer pull than original, very satisfactory for me. The 30-30 trigger out of box was about 7.5-8 lbs and hammer was pretty stout. I returned the 30-30 to Henry with the same request as for the 45-70. Once again, they received the rifle Friday before last, I received it back last Friday, and again, modified trigger and hammer pull are just like the 45-70. Great job Henry, thanks!

I've not shot the 30-30 yet and have only shot the 45-70 a few times. Have fired one 5 shot group at 100 yards, handloads of 3031 and 300 grain Sierra, 1.5 inch group with a 1-4X Leupold muzzleloader scope with the heavy crosshair. I'm happy with that.
