New .357 SS

Post by r80rt » Fri Oct 11, 2024 7:06 pm

Howdy folks, I just brought home my new single shot .357 and this is my first post. The trigger is good, the hammer is stiff and the wood is nice. It likes my 158 cast loads pretty well, I think I have my new woods bumming companion. Now I wont have to waste any more time on my hands and knees looking for brass in the leaves. :D

Ive had one from when they first came out. Mine had to go back for the upgrade. But I can tell you this I love mine and it shoots 125's and 158's very good. If you reload you will have a good time playin with the SS. I love mine and have a reflex green dot sight on it because I dont like the irons. Welcome to the forum

Welcome r80rt. :D I have two of the .357 SS's. The reason for the second one was to have the chamber reamed for .357 Maximum but it shoots so well as a standard .357 it will probably stay that way. One is scoped and one is red dotted and both are fun and relaxing to shoot. Enjoy!!

I went out to check fences this morning, and did a little plinking. I'm impressed with this little rifle.

Welcome from the Inland Pacific Northwest. I don’t have a SS but my Henry Big Boy 357 shoots amazingly well.

That big boy is a nice rifle for sure, I like them. I have 2 Rossi 92's in .357 and a new Marlin 1894 in .357 along with a Ruger SP101, GP100 and a Vaquero all in .357. Picking one gun is a problem for me, but picking one cartridge is easy :D

Oh yes, the 357 is one fine caliber, the ole Rossi sees more action than most, followed up by some of the 45 colts.
My 357 collection at the moment, I've been pondering a new Ruger/Marlin 357, just having a hard time spending the cash on it. ;)

Oh man those are nice, I love the little Rossi's. I had a 77/357 a few years ago and I still kick myself for letting it go. But I'm a lefty and my buddy's kid needed a first rifle, he still uses it with a big grin.

Tell me more about these single shots.
How well do they shoot cast bullets??
I have a Rossi 92 in 357 cal. The lever
Action are more than I want to pay. At 75
why do I even want or need one. That's why I'm
concerating a single shot. I hear they are way
better than the New England firearms.
Appreciate your thoughts on these.. Johnny

If you're only 75 I'd say to go for it! :D At 77 I sure like mine. Most of my shooting is with cast bullets and the little singles do very well with them. The exception is the .223 which I haven't shot cast bullets in yet. Been putting that off because I heard attempting to get cast bullet accuracy in a .223 can cause premature aging. Sometime this winter I'll find out.

Edit to add.....the two in the middle are .357's. One with a reddot and one scoped.

Know what you mean Randy about the Cast Boolit site. I go on to mostly read the B.P.C.R. stuff.

Yessir I'm a member over there for over 20 years. My handle on Cast Boolits is "Doghawg". My prairie dog shootin' buddies gave me that title because of my aggressive style.
