Henry Single shot 44
Just picked up a single shot 44 and this thing shoots like you wouldn’t believe. Quality way above the price!

Re: Henry Single shot 44
Congrats on the new 44. I have seen some post and targets on another forum and his shot very well as well. I like others am hoping for more pistol calibers and maybe even one in 38-55. Wouldn't that be special. Al

Re: Henry Single shot 44
Thank you so much for the welcome. I’ve shot with open sights at 50 yards so far and holes overlap. Shot at a stone at 50 yards and it disappeared! Will go to 100 when weather is a little better. My problem is whether to save up and put Skinners sights or a weaver 1-3 scope. It begs for the Skinners. It’s beautiful and the handi rifles I’ve had are not even close to the same league. My local store charged $349. Looks and shoots as if it was $700. I can’t get over how nice they are.
Re: Henry Single shot 44
That's my assessment, too. Fit and finish are really good. I'm looking forward to nicer weather to see just how good a 45-70 shoots with a scope mounted

Re: Henry Single shot 44
If I didn't already have an H&R single shot in 45 Colt, I would get one. I might get one anyway, but I got the Henry single shot in 223 first. What I would really like to see is one chambered in .357.

You're killin' me here! The 44 SS is on my short list. I'm just trying to get everything I I already own up to where I want them before I start any new projects.
Go for the Skinner rear and a Lyman 17a globe on the front! You won't be sorry. Personally I prefer iron sights on a nice light single shot vs a scope. More in keeping with the KISS principle.

Ahhh the .223 Single is the one I would like to save up for. Called Andy at Skinner sights and he says the handi rifle will fit and I’ll place my order soon!

Re: Henry Single shot 44
If you want more controllable adjustability, the Williams FP-HR TK for the H&R should fit and work well with a Lyman globe.

This is the FP-HR-TK on my Handi .223 Note that the two, high mounting screws are not what Williams ships with the sight. Theirs sit lower and flush.

This is someone's image found on the net of the FP used with a Lyman.

My H015 will arrive in a few days, so I’ll comment more later.

Re: Henry Single shot 44
That is an interesting sight. I didn't know Williams made a FP model for NEF, I'd only seen the WGRS version. There's one thing I would check. The sight/scope base mounting screw holes are located slightly farther back on the Henry than they are on the NEF/H&R guns. That's why the Weaver 82 base fits, while some others (Warne 981M, for example) need to be slightly modified to clear the standing breech. I would want to know how far the rearmost mounting screw hole is from the end of the sight base on the FP (and WGRS, too) before I ordered one. I have my Warne base ready to go, so probably won't "go Peep", but I'm interested in checking it out, because it may very well allow use of the factory front sight.
I have discussed this issue via E-Mail with Andy at Skinner sights, I understand that his sights will fit Henry single shots.

Re: Henry Single shot 44
So far I’ve only tried American Eagle 44 240 grain jacketed hollow point and it likes them so well I don’t need to try anymore but will try a solid like HSM 305 grain hard cast just in case I need them.
Re: Henry Single shot 44
An update on using the Williams FP-HR receiver sight on the Henry Single Shot: On the Graybeard Outdoors web site, there is a thread on the Henry Repeating Arms page about modifying that sight to fit. It does take a little milling to clear the standing breech (as I did with the Warne scope base) as well as a little on the side to clear the receiver. There are nice, sharp photos posted. I believe it was done with a milling machine. It would require some pretty fancy filing to do by hand.
