Black Powder Day

Post by BigAl52 » Mon Apr 27, 2020 8:40 pm

Went to my Black powder range and met up with my friend Phil from Denver. He is a great guy and very knowledgeable about the history of the Hawken Rifles. Phil is also a Green River Rifle Works historian and collector. I got my new full stock Hawken last Thursday. Its a John Bergmann build. John is a builder who resides in Granville Tenn. Hes been building rifles since the 70's. He does great work and is just a super good guy. My new rifle is 54 caliber full stock with CCH butt plate, lock, trigger guard, and tang. John does the CCH himself. I must say it came out really nice and it shoots really well. I only have one target here to show as it was sight in day. I need to do it again and remember to take my file to file down the front sight. The gun is shooting low. 80 grains of 2fg swiss a 530 ball with .018 patch. Big holes. We like big holes in the paper. Right RR.

Here is the gun. Took this picture at home obviously. I tried to take some at the range but the sun was so bright I couldnt tell where I was at in relation to the gun as it was blinding the screen out. So in order to get closer to the gun I retook this one at home.
