Well a good day without all the wind to test out and zero my Henry BBS 44 Carbine with the new ghost ring rear sight insert.

First 3 shots with no adjustment from 22 yds. were right on the money shooting my standard MB 240 gr. SWC coated bullets with 9.5 Unique
which is a good light .44 Mag plinking load on steel.
Next three more of those rounds from 50 yds shooting from my knee sitting in chair. I think I was moving the rifle a bit on these as they opened up.

Then tried the hotter load of same MB bullet with 18.5 gr. of Alliant 2400 powder from 50 yds. Much better looking 3 shots with one in the center!
From there I moved on to shooting my steel targets and it was easy shootin' getting the ghost ring sight on target and knocking them down from 35 yds.

Had several good hits on that little 3 inch steel from 30 yds too!!

Now the weird stuff that happens.... I was going to load the gun back in truck but then spotted the little critter target I brought along which is a piece of wood laminate flooring. So I set that up and shot it from 20-25 yds. using my 240 gr. 9.5 Unique plinking loads and that's when the crazy
key hole like hits showed up!!!!
What the heck is this all about since it was first time I had seen that with a 240 gr. bullet out of this rifle!!!
So I shot quite a few of same rounds at bottom of my target board and all looked fine then shot another couple at that critter target and
key hole again....now entering the Twilight Zone!!!
The steel shows good round hits as does the target board but maybe something with bullet tumble after it hits a solid but giving target???

Just very strange results on the wood laminate critter target!

So you think it's just some tumbling going on when it hits the wood?

Do you have that floor tile in a swinger? I'm thinking that the tile is flexing and swinging at the same time. Are your powder charges consistent? Just my .02 cents worth.

to many perfect circles to believe something is up with the ammo .... in addition, the only tumblers are in the same target .... I have no clue as to the cause but do believe that whatever is causing it lies with the target

All-around thumbs up range report, especially the hits on the 3" steel.
And that ghost ring sight is picture perfect!
What a great day on the range.

I think that since you are shooting a rifle maybe think about trying the old Elmer Keith load using 2400 powder. He is the man responsible for the .44 magnum existing. If you ever get a chance to read Hell I was There, his life story don't pass it up.
