With rainy weather moving in over next few days I made a run down to my range to see how well the Caldwell brass catcher would
work on a lever rifle. When I get an idea I want to test it quickly....can't sleep wondering about if something will work!
Note: Please excuse my calling the Henry a Ruger...major brain fart!!!

So took my BBS 44 Carbine along with the BB CCH 357 rifle to see how the brass bag would work with no mods.
Seemed to function really well on the BB 357 rifle but a few issues with some cases not making full exit on the .44 Mag Carbine due to an alignment issue with the bag. Also using the Velcro wrap strap can bunch up in front of the rear sight causing sight problems.

After looking at better mounting options I think I can attach two plastic tabs to top of bag in line with two of the unused sight screw locations in top of receiver. This would place the bag location centered to the case ejection port and hold it tight to the receiver...no gap. It would also
eliminate need for the strap.
Now just have to order up a few 8-40 short screws and then make up the plastic mounting tabs. Reason for plastic is so nothing will scratch the
rifle receivers on top.

I suppose now you are going to pay a health club for getting exercise because your not getting enough with this brass catcher.

Oh well...win some lose some!

It seems like the straps would block the sights but obviously it doesn’t.

Well yeah they can depending on how your sight is setup and that's another reason for trying a different attachment method.
I think it's going to work well for my range area which is grass and gravel. Lot of times the spent brass will stand straight up in the grass and you will miss it.
I know some folks don't care where the brass goes but I like to collect as much of it back as I can for reloading especially the good Starline brass.
Now I can move around while shooting and save time spent looking for the brass. And yes no need for it with .45-70...can't miss those brass logs!
