Funday Sunday at the range!

Post by fortyshooter » Sun Feb 09, 2020 5:55 pm

Had a good list of shooting projects to do today and got some of them done. My neighbor Dave from up the road stopped by with his new
MP-40 assault pistol for his first shots. The thing shot really well right out the box with no sight adjustment...fun shooter.
Took a few hits of 9mm to knock down that big ol' coyote though! https://youtu.be/bt0kA5tfmcM

Now for my shooting....I wanted to test my .38 Special cased 180 loads and the Magnum cased 180 loads across my chrony and then test those
250 gr. Keith bullet .44 Special loads...the bullets that Big Al sent me. Then for fun try and hit a .45-70 case from 50 yds with those hot 180 MB bullets
with the .357 Big Boy...open sights. Got to try and hang with ol' eagle eyes RR you know!

The Chrony tests went really well with the 180 magnum 11.5 gr. of 2400 giving consistent 1380's with only a 8 FPS spread out of the Henry.!!
Next up were the same MB 180 Pug bullet but in the .38 Special case with 11.1 gr. of 2400 powder giving1310-1327 FPS. Think I can bump it to
11.4 to match the Magnum load speed.

And then I took that 50 yd. shot with the Henry BB using the Magnum 180 load. First several shots where noted as high but windage not too bad.
Next try I aimed lower and pulled trigger and GOT IT! Major accomplishment! https://youtu.be/LvUEqZ8bYjs
Give the video a minute or so!

Great shooting, that's a fun and challenging target for sure. Nicely done.

I did shoot those ,44 250 K bullets over the chrony with my Ruger Bisley Blackhawk and got a nice 980 FPS Didn't have much time to try them on a target with all else going on BUT do have plenty left to do a more detailed review next time down.

Looks like y'all were having some fun there.
Nice shooting on the 45-70 case.
Actually found a good use of those worthless things.

I did manage to shoot a few of those 180's yesterday also.

Thanks! Yes it was a great afternoon of shooting and a young neighbor on my other side is working on his new range area and we went by to check it out.
That unlucky .45-70 case was the useless shorter Hornady case which I have some of and keep separate.

That 180 MB load is very predictable on where it's impact will be!
