Those .357/180's!

Post by Rifletom » Thu Jan 02, 2020 5:29 pm

We couldn't all [3 of us] hook-up for a desert shoot today, so, I went to a range up in our local mountains. I have to say, those 180's out of my Henry BB brass are ACCURATE! With the 180's, there was a wee bit of scope adjustment, but, Lordy, they are accurate. I really couldn't tell much, if any difference between the 11.5gr 2400 and the 12.0gr 2400. I'll stay with 11.5 for now. And I'm getting another box of Missouri coated 180's pronto. This will be my new load in the Henry .357. As to my .45 Colt, I didn't have as good as luck for some reason. 15 shots in the black, but, 8 shots just outside the black. :x Unacceptable. This is why I bought that new Leupold VX-1 2-7 for the .45 Colt. I don't think the Tasco is up to snuff. I'll try and get some range pics up. Sure was a nice day at the range. Back to the loading bench.

Tom
Which bullets are you using in the Colt and are you using 2400 with those?

250gr Missouri rnfp coated and 8.0gr Unique. OAL: 1.590" Actually Al, the coated ones seemed pretty good. My first 10 was the same exact load except non coated bullets. Its always been accurate until I put the Tasco on. Leupold going on tomorrow or Sat. You have a load using 2400? I'm all eyes.
You're going to like those 180's. To be honest, I wish my eyes worked with issued irons, but, alas.

Tom
I havent had much luck with 8 grains of Unique in 45 colt. Ive used some HS-6 and some red dot. 6.5 of red dot has been good for me and around 10.2 or 10.3 of hs-6. I have read where guys have had better luck with Unique in the 9 to 10 gr range but Ive not ever loaded any up at the level.
