Dan Wesson 44 and 175 range report

Post by garryj » Wed May 22, 2019 1:11 pm

I finally got to the range yesterday to try out my Dan Wesson 44 with it’s new 6” VH barrel from CZ-USA. I tried out three 44 magnum target hand loads and all performed very well.
I also took my Dan Wesson 715 6” VH to try out some of my 357 hand loads
All shots were from sitting position, resting one elbow on the bench. Range was 10 yards, 12 shot groups on each target.

44 magnum loads were all 240gr Berry’s plated flat point and powder loads were:
target 1: 7.0gr American Select
target 2: 8.0gr W231(best group)
target 3: 7.4gr American Select

The two best .357 loads were:
target 5: 158gr lead rnfp with 4.2gr American Select
target 6: Speer 125gr total metal jacket with 4.5gr W231(the flier is my fault).

I am very pleased with both of there revolver's performance and they are so easy to clean(removable barrel).
I shot other guns, but these were the most fun and best performers of the day.

Nice work with those Dans. Love those hi-viz front sights. Might have to try them on my DWs.

Nice shooting. Back in the late 1980s I shot a friend’s 8” DW 44. It is still the the most accurate revolver I’ve ever shot. I used to own the DW 41 stainless, and though it was accurate, it couldn’t touch that 44.
