April 21st, 1860

Beautiful spring day on and at the range today. Took some of my reloaded ammo to put through my historic old west 1860 Henry rifle. A friendly game of frontier darts.
Ammunition is 45 Colt, 7.0 gn of Universal powder, 200gr LRNFP bullet. I upped the powder on these from the first batch at 6.5 gn.
This is an awesome round to shoot. Very snappy. No recoil to speak of, and still hit with a thump. 2 x 10" targets. The little pink center is 1" diameter. Hope you enjoy these, I sure did.
50 yds, 12 rounds, off hand standing, no wind today. Open sights. Ammo cycled flawlessly. OAL of cartridge is just under 1.6", seems to run real well in my rifle.

Next up is my best target to date I think. 12 rounds, shooting from 1 knee position which is very comfortable for me. 50 yds again, open sights. That hombre is off to Boot Hill.

my wife really liked you last picture .... I was impressed with the 2nd one ....just curious, when you going to start training your trusty steed so as to be able to fire while mounted and at a dead run ..

Great shooting!!
I have to imagine that Henry does a pretty good job of soaking up a good bit of recoil.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Shooting from horseback?...no thanks....could be the mother of all wrecks and I've had a few doozy's in 40+ years...
Recoil....my rifle does not have much recoil shooting factory or my reloads....24" iron pipe takes up lots of bang...
Frame it?....haha maybe make that one my avatar...

While you're at it, frame those targets, too. Great shooting, RR, as always.
By the way, got an itch to watch an old favorite western, the other night. Monte Walsh always takes me on a wonderful trip to those old cowboy days. Love that movie. Have to say, you'd fit right in, cowboy. Part of the movie was actually filmed in Canada, too.

I will take that as a compliment for sure as that is one of my top 3 movies. The Tom Selleck one? If so yes it was filmed just west of Calgary Alberta. They got the gear and period look spot on in that one. The late Jerry Croft made Selleck's saddles and gear. They needed an extra sadle real quick for the town bronc ride, and Croft sent his son's own personal saddle. It has little paw prints stamped into it. Not sure the significance but it's unique.
The bronc ride was done by Kyle Thomson who lives about 20 minutes from me. He's a Canadian Pro rodeo cowboy. GREAT movie.

That second target is flat out amazing for 45LC at 50yds while kneeling - great shooting.

You better believe it was a compliment, cowboy. If they needed a shooting scene in Monte Walsh, you'd have been perfect. Yeah, that bronc ride scene was flat out amazing.

Nice target RR. That guy who mentioned Universal Clays when you were lookin for loadin powder he didnt give you know bum steer did he.

Nope. That's the powder alright. Think I'll stick with it.
