The Pup and I went to the range yesterday and had a great day. The only down side was the rifle side was full, so we could only use the pistols.

Got to talking to the nice young ladies in the next two lanes. They were newer police officers getting some range time. One of them was having trouble trouble with her grip. The real issue, in my mind, was the issue Glock 40 did not fit her hands properly. Unfortunately, they must carry what they are issued. I let them both shoot my Springfield 1911, and they both had their eyes light up. Their groups were significantly smaller as well.

Everyone walked away with a smile. I swear I spend more time at the range with other shooters, than I do shooting these days.

Good to read clovis. If I'm not shooting my lever rifles, I am most certainly shooting my SA 1911-A1. It is my favorite handgun. .45 Auto's are a hoot. Bought mine new in '93 and have been handloading/shooting it regularly. Mil-spec.

Been there done that a few times myself. But theres always the reward of how a person feels after giving someone a helping hand.

I would have liked to have helped more. Often a couple observations and some basic info will make a dramatic improvement in someone's groups. I had no clue on how to help her out with a gun that really didn't fit her well. In retrospect, I could have suggested she spend as much time with her off duty gun, assuming she has one, and the skills will likely spill over.

I do - draft a well worded letter to the Chief of Police and describe what you saw I.E. the gun not fitting her hand properly etc. and request he/she look into this and consider a possible change to something with a better fit.

Oh and make sure you request a response from him/her with regard to this in a timely manner.

I don't shoot my Sig Sauer 1911 or Taurus .45 all that much. Too much power in the .45s for me. Hurts my wrist after a few rounds and then too shaky to maintain POA.

Do you reload? If you do, some 200 grain cast semi wadcutters over Trail Boss will give you a nice accurate and soft shooting round.

I love shooting my P220. I'm shooting a 185 gr bullet with 5.5 gr of Bullseye. I can tear up the center of the target at 10 yards or so.

I don't reload. But thanks for the recipe description. I just might ask someone who does reload to make some up for me.

I shot my P220 in service auto matches for years. I shot a 185g semi wadcutter bullet using w231 powder and the xring was all mine back to 15 yards. I won a lot of those matches back in the day. On this last trip, the P220 rode along... Not some hi capacity nine.

I won and shot a 1911 in many matches for 40 yrs and carried this 1911 Randall for CCW for 20 yrs . I love my Randall and still have it . My Glock in my opinion is a better CCW carry gun . I found out 7 rds against a Biker gang with my spares mags and ammo is in my motorcycle not good odds ........................

during a past life I was an instructor with NC's Prison System .... the one firearm fits all mentality is largely pushed by lawyers concerned with various liability issues and the economics surrounding the state being able to negotiate bulk purchase prices .... while I understand those factors, I always felt they should be secondary to an individual's needs so as to best perform their duties .... I've owned a Colt 1911 and have handled several other brands .... they are truly fine handguns but they simply don't feel good in my hand so I don't use them .... as contrast, I prefer the feel of a Luger's grip ....

The wife carries the 23c and shoots it well. When we switched from the model 64 Smith to a semi auto, after extensive test and evaluation, it was down to the Glock 22 and the SIG P220. The Chief finally went with the Glock based solely on the initial costs, and the long term projections in ammo and maintenance. The Glock 22 is the full size 40 caliber duty gun, and five years after the change, we downsized to the standard, non-comped, model 23. This is the mid frame 40 caliber. When i don't carry the SIG 45, I usually carry the 23.

As for angry biker gangs? I stay in the Titan, and run!

In this situation, no matter what handgun you have... with three to one odds indoors and ten man backup outside, you are outgunned. I am glad you survived.

13 rounds in my Glock is far better then 7 rds in my 1911 . This crazy old man carries a 5 shot 22 mag in a NAA around my neck and 26 rds in my bag / purse .Plus I must use a cane to walk and can't fight anymore . So I carry a sword cane too , which is legal in Tx now .
