Finally got out with a Henry

It has been a few years since I was able to get out with a Henry. Heck, it's been a few years since I shot much of anything except air guns. Anyways, a group of us went to the range last month. I brought my Big Boy .45 LC. I had bought it used and wanted to compare it to my Big Boy .44.

I had put Johnson's paste wax on it when I got it. Good thing, it was pouring when it came time to shoot the rifle. I loaded a few rounds and found the sights dead on. It has very little felt recoil. It was plinking fun all the way. I'm not much for shooting in the rain, so I only reloaded once and had fun. I dried it off best as possible under the shelter and checked it and cleaned it when I got home. I liked the gun. Typical Henry smoothness and reliability. It could take a deer for sure. I had never shot .45 long Colt. I'd have to say that it seemed like it was in between .44 special and .44 magnum in the felt recoil department. As far as ballistics go, I would have to defer to others where it falls.
I'd love to pick up an old Smith and Wesson N frame in .45 LC. That would be a nice pair.

Sorry, no pictures. It was raining and while I'll shoot a gun in the rain, I won't use cameras in the rain.

Glad to read that you and Henry got together.... :) (Since I got my .45 Colt revolver earlier this year, I've wanted to try out a Henry .45LC to see how a rifle shoots that caliber. Maybe some day).

Better yet, many Forum Folk are plain 'ole happy to see you getting to again post some.
Your participation has been missed, DD.

I’ve never shot 45LC in a rifle. Bet it would be fun.

Dave, I'm very pleased to see you posting and with a range report, to boot. Please keep them coming.

Yeah, your description of how a 45 Colt feels to shoot is spot on. For me, the 45 Colt has a charm all its own. Not quite the same as shooting other big bores. Just something about it.
