Range Report: two .22WMR Henrys
The forecast for today was for cold and sunny skies. This prompted me to head to the range.
Yes the sky was blue but the range was in the shade all day. With the cold air my glasses were constantly fogged up.
Long 24” Barrel Frontier with Marbles tang and Lyman globe. Frontier with replica Malcolm scope, brass lite receiver cover and custom large loop. Most of my targets were in the three to four inch range. I took a break after putting out fresh targets and noticed I couldn’t see my breath anymore.
I loaded ten rounds into the Long Barrel rifle.
After missing the barn all day I shoot these side by side targets back to back. The tang and globe gave me a 1.137” group and was about half the size of every group before. The Malcolm scope provided the best target of the day at .833”. Not bad for my first time shooting in months.

Excellent results! That Malcolm scope looks interesting. Got a story there?

I knew you could punch one out in under an inch. Nice shooting. Id take the one with the peep anytime. You sure that was cold air fog and not hot coffee fog.

Great shooting!
The brass and scope look very "later 1800s ".

+1 on wanting to hear the story about that scope! From the scope itself to the way it's mounted (to the barrel?), rail, rings, etc. Very intriguing piece of hardware, would love to hear the story.

Congrats, Gene. Always takes awhile to get back in the groove when I haven't shot for awhile, too. The important thing is to finish a session with some great targets and you did just that. Keep up the good work.

Re: Range Report: two .22WMR Henrys
Thanks all. I’ll make a separate post about the scope later today.
I was almost ready to give up for the day. There was about a dozen people at the range in four separate groups. When someone asked for a ceasefire to put out more targets I was going to grab mine and go home. But then I noticed everyone was grabbing theirs and packing up so I put out fresh targets and waited for everyone to leave.
Most of the others were shooting centerfire and I was wearing soft inner ear plugs, a wool jeep hat and hard ears over the stocking cap. My glasses were pressed to close to my face.
With everyone gone I took off the hard ears and I believe that was the main problem. My eye glasses now fit where they should have fit.
Here is the cardboard backing. It was fresh yesterday so every hit was from yesterday. Each time I put a new target up it might have been off an inch or so and some of the groups were also off center because the point of impact varied between brands

Sometimes have the same problem with ear muffs and my glasses, too. I really hate using muffs, but plugs plus the muff are pretty much a necessity for the stuff I often shoot. Rimfires, though, I can go with plugs, only. Another plus for shooting rimfire.

That's cool. Love that backlit backing showing the holes. Great way to share results.
