BBS357/Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4X20 Tune Up

Post by ESquared » Fri Aug 17, 2018 3:13 pm

Did a sight in with the smithy a couple days ago with the Hornady ammo I'll be using in November, but wanted to go back today and just try it for myself.

We sighted it in at 1" high @ 50 yds with the Hornady 158 gr XTP (and that seemed to settle in where we wanted it to) and today's ammo was MagTech 158 gr FN "range ammo," so didn't really know what to expect. Might have subconsciously been aiming on the low side, trying for a POI bullseye, who knows?

Anyway, except for two that I totally jerked (and knew it when I did it), it began to resemble the ol' "ragged hole" after just 20 rounds total, so I let it go at that.

Still have some adjusting to do and some more rounds of the "real thing" to work in over the coming weeks, but I feel good about things, which I honestly don't think I could have done without the help of many folks here, so thank you again. I never anticipated ending up with a scope on this rifle, but I'm glad I did, and it just looks pretty proportional to me. Maybe I'm not the purist I thought I was; I just know this makes it more fun!

Nice shooten there. Reminiscing back to some of your very first posts, I knew then you'd come around on the scope. Looks like you're about ready for fall hunting. Practice a few times between now and then so you don't loose your edge.

Yes, who knew but you and (many) others here, I'd guess! Had to figure it out for myself, though, huh? I'm out at the range with it twice a week, so I'll stay sharp. Just ordered a cheek riser (separate thread), as I figured out AFTER I posted this what was bugging me today.

My head was kind of "up in the air," instead of where it used to be with my Peep sight!

Live and learn, Mags, you knew all along. Good call.
