Thinking about sending the Henry back again. Picture shows 40 rounds of .223 @ 50 yards on the left target and on the right target 38 rounds of .327. This new barrel is just all over the place.

You shoot the .223 first? Arms a little fatigued after 40 rounds? Subsequently shooting the .327 maybe a little 'shakey' there ShakeyJake?

No, shot the Henry first. The .223 has a Burris Fullfied II scope and the Henry has a Burris FUllfield E1 scope. That's the only difference except for the caliber. I shot both rifles off a bench using sand bags.

I can understand. Nice group with .223 though.

Do it, Jake. You're certainly not satisfied with it as it is. When you contact them (by phone), follow it up with an email including these photos and a written statement of your disappointment. HRA will make it right. It's a hassle, but it's also an iron clad guarantee. Let them prove it to you.

What ammo have you tried?
I was a bit disappointed in mine when I first got it 5 shot groups at 50y were 3-4" with the AE ammo. Still haven't done any real load development but the initial trial load groups shrank to 1-2" at the same distance.
Some rifles and ammo just wont shoot together, I had a 7mmRM that with the first box of factory ammo struggled to do better than 6" at 100y probably ended up shooting 50 groups with that rifle and could count the number of groups over 2" on a couple of fingers. The rifle shot well with everything but the one brand of ammo tried first.

Per our PM .... with that picture, I'd call Henry, express your frustration, and email the picture .... I've seen you shoot and I've shot that rifle .... I'd be very tempted to include in the conversation a question as to if you should contact Anthony

Shooting my own loads. This particular group was using Federal 200 primer, 85gr XTP, over 8.0 gr True Blue in a Starline case.

I've been mulling it over and I guess I'll contact them tomorrow to see, if anything, what they say. I'll try to get an email address to send the pics. Thanks for the support.

I don't blame you one bit for being disappointed. That's good proof that the Henry needs a fix. I could see 2", even 3", but not that big a spread. Have had a Ruger Single Seven revolver in 327 that would do better at 50 yards with the AE ammo, no scope, either.

One thing I did notice in the picture is there is a lot more vertical then horizontal. Horizontal looks to be about 3" not great but not exactly terrible for the number of rounds.
I have found levers to be a lot more difficult to shoot off a bench than other actions, very easy to have it sitting slightly different on the bags and also easy to grip it slightly differently from shot to shot. All of this will increase group size.
Would be very interesting to know the order of shots, did it just throw a random shot high or low or did a few in a row tend to go to the same area.

All I can say is the barrel that come on it originally shot a whole lot better. I think there's some pics still on this thread if one wants to go back far enough. I can say that I no longer have the "case bulge" problem and I have yet had a round not fire. I was having some rounds not fire on the first strike. Those two problems seem to be eliminated. (I might try going back to Accurate #9 but I really don't think that's the problem.) We'll see what Henry has to say. I only have one hand on the rifle when shooting off the bench/bags no matter the firearm. I steady the rifle on the bag and right shoulder. It works for me and I've been very successful shooting that way since I was a teen. I'm sure there's a lot of advise as to how I may not be shooting correctly, have the right ammo, maybe I'm jerking, etc. BUT if you look at those two targets you can't tell me it's NOT the rifle.

Ya I have to agree with the others. At 50 yds, shouldn't have that wide of a spread even with more repositioning after .327 recoil over the .223.

Henry (Jeffrey Post) said to send it back. I'll do that at the beginning of the month as I'm going to be traveling over the next couple of weeks.

I've ordered some American Eagle .327 from Cabelas. They finally got some in stock. .327 factory ammo is getting harder and harder to find. I'll try again with the factory ammo and see what happens. I had an incident while visiting my mom in Bartlesville. Nothing major but my neck is causing me some problems that I need to get checked out. X-rays showed nothing but I probably need an MRI on it to see if I've got a disc out of place. As soon as my physical needs are lined out I'll take the factory ammo out and see if I get a better grouping.

Get better soon, Jake and keep us posted. Interested to see what happens with you and Henry and the whole situation. You know they'll fix it.

No, I'm going to try the factory loads first. That way Henry won't be able to question the handloads.
