Two Trainers at the range

Took a pair of CZ 452 Trainers to one of our clubs ranges this afternoon. Went to the old range that has nice solid shooting tables but not much else. I like it because it gets little use from other shooters. Besides having the two rifles I also had my wife/best friend with me to shoot up some ammo. Both rifles were sighted in with standard velocity Geco ammo but I wanted to get rid of some of the Federal Auto match I have had for quite a while. I set the graduation plates for the windage and elevation to zero so I can go back to the Geco when shooting of my porch. The Geco is lot quieter than the auto match. I am no fan of auto match but it did shoot pretty well in both rifles and not a single failure of any kind. My wife fell in love with the CZ and its great trigger. It is set at 12 OZ. for bench shooting and passes all the bump test. She was shooting the Trainer with a 2-7 Leupold and she was having a blast shooting empty shot shell hulls from 40 yds out to to 60 plus yards with no problem. She was smiling the whole time seeing the empty hulls fly when hitting them solid. I ended up giving her the CZ and the Leupold scope for her own bolt rifle to go with her 7 Marlin 39A's she also has in the safe. She did tell me that she still likes the Marlin's but the CZ is much easier to hit smaller targets with the nice trigger pull. I set some up at 50 yds. with the shell head facing her and she ran them all down the line but maybe missed two out of ten or 12 I set up for her. We ended up shooting almost two 325 round boxes before we quit shooting and headed home. Also saw 4 ground hogs on the way home which has been rare around here for quite a while. Maybe varmint hunting will get better in a couple years. Cleaned both rifles well and set them back for another trip with her soon.

Gosh, Bandit.....almost 650 rounds shot today! Hard for me to imagine that amount in a single day. But sounds like you two had a great time together, and I can just see how she smiled with those shot shells flying hither and yon.

A couple of years ago I was shooting 12-ga hulls with my Henry .22LR, and it is fun shooting at those. I don't exactly recall, but think I shot at about 30-35 yards out, no farther than that. I shot off hand with the Skinner rear peep sight (barrel-mount) and standard Henry front bead sight. But your wife's shooting at +60 yards is impressive!!

For sure, that was a lot of lead slinging, there, bandit. Sounds like a great afternoon.

I feel much the same as your wife about our CZs. Love our Marlin and Winchester lever 22s, but our go to guns for shooting good groups has always been our CZs. The CZs are our benchmark guns for rimfire performance. Everything gets compared to them.

In our CZ collection, we have a 452 Trainer and also a 452 SuperMatch, which is basically a Trainer with 12 groove rifling instead of the standard 6 groove. If there's a difference in accuracy, I can't tell it, though. Both wear iron sights for those days when my eyes are up to shooting iron. Unfortunately, those days are getting fewer and fewer. That's why we have other CZs setup with scopes and even a 455 American 22 LR with a red dot which I use a LOT for my offhand shooting.

NCG, I have not really heard any body say there is a difference in accuracy with the 12 groove barrel. My experience with the Micro groove type barrels have all been with Marlin's. I prefer the 6 groove barrels over the fine multiple groove barrels and I feel from shooting my Marlins my Ballard barrel ones shoot slightly better and don't foul as fast as the Micro- groove type rifling. They seem to clean easier also. My friends that shoot 22 rifle competition are shooting Benchmark two and three groove barrels and that seems to be the ones that win a lot of matches. I almost bought one of the 12 groove CZ's but bought a Tikka T3 223 instead.
