Went to the range today and well, I can't say it was too good. I've decided to send the Henry back for warranty service. The first issue I pondered with was headspace and after discussing some first fired cases with some other fellows at the range today it was a unanimous decision there was a headspace issue. Secondly, I had 5 rounds in a row not fire when I pulled the trigger. I cycled them back through one at a time by hand and they all fired but one. Got pissed and threw the one that didn't fire the second time in the "dud" bucket they keep by the benches. Anyway, I just filled out the warranty request form so hopefully it won't take them too long to respond after the holiday. I tell you it's an accurate rifle and looks great but the mechanics have me doubting if I'll ever get another Henry. Anyway, I'm sure my frustration had something to do with my accuracy today. The first few shots are the ones that are high and the second ones low. I finally resigned myself not to let it get to me and started shooting a bit better: 55 shots/100 yards/unusually low wind today for out there.

Some of those look pretty dialed in to me. I am not familiar with the "headspace" term, sorry about your frustration with the rifle. Hope it gets better.

I've had three broken cases stuck in the chamber. There is a definite "bulge" in each case. I'll try to get some pictures but don't know if they'll come out good enough tell just by the picture. I'll send some fired cases along with the rifle so the people at Henry can see also.

That sounds like a good idea.

That sounds like a headspace problem for sure. I know that H.R.A. will fix it and maybe just send you a new rifle. Keep us posted.

Have you ever opened the action and inserted a round to ensure it seats to the rim in the chamber? If so and the bolt closes normally with no other resistance than the lever detent its probably not a headspace issue. On the 'surface' it sounds like a case of slight over bore of the the chamber. Headspace problems are not as common with rimmed cartridge Guns since the round headspaces on the rim and the chamber can vary in length slightly and not be a problem.
With regard to the rounds that did not fire did you look at the firing pin indentations on the primers? Did they look normal or 'shallow' ?

Rounds not firing, I can understand the frustration. Other than that, looks like some nice shooting.

They were shallow. I've been reloading for some time and don't have that problem with any of my other caliber rifles or pistols. Just this one firearm.
