Finally took my LCR .38 Special + P to the range today. I've only shot it twice in 10 months. Sure don't want too much dust to gather on it! So I went to an indoor range today rather than outdoors as I usually do. That was mainly to avoid mid-80s temp and high humidity outdoors. I got there a little early and ahead of the crowd that was growing when I finished shooting. It was a good outing.

The Revolver
Ammo Expended

Hornady CD 110gr FTX – 5 rounds. This is the EDC ammo I have loaded whenever gun is holstered. I always shoot 5-10 rounds whenever practice with my EDC gun.
PerFecta 158gr FMJ – 25 rounds. These plinker rounds have a recoil feel close to the Hornady CD in +P loads. So they are good to work with.
Zero 125gr JHP – 50 rounds. Reloaded ammo kindly supplied by CT_Shooter.

Target Distances

6, 8, 10 yards. Shot off hand, used both two-hand or one-hand holds.
3 yards. Two 5-round cylinder loads shot rapid fire.

POI Displays

Only posting two targets today.
Splash oval-on-the-side set at 6 yards. These were my first shots of the day. My eval/results are based on 20/20 POIs within the 8” high X 10.5” wide oval which includes the 8-ring black to the red bull. The longest POIs from dead-on bull are almost 5 inches (lower right and far left from bull).
Round 6” yellow paper target set at 3 yards. Again, ignore the .22LR POIs from another day. I placed 8/10 POIs here using rapid fire, both hands. Lots of fun. The revolver trigger responded/operated excellently to this fast shooting today. I think I actually improved my trigger control and POIs this time trying rapid fire. BTW, this rapid fire display is made possible by CT_Shooter’s reloads….good ammo!
One comment about another shooter at the range today. This is one of two indoor ranges I use, and at both they allow rapid fire and all types of calibers & ammo. I was surprised that there was one fellow shooting a Desert Eagle .50 Caliber pistol. That doesn’t happen too often. It about made my .38 Special + P rounds sound like .22 shorts!! That is sure a handful of a pistol to fire. Kind of enjoyable to see the variety of calibers folk use. That's it for this Range Report. Fun way to spend a Saturday.

PT, that sure does look like fun. Of course it has to be, since you're shooting a revolver, right? That's some fine work, too, with the little gun. I assume that's a double action only gun, right? All the better. Thanks to you, I'm already feeling I'm overdue for some more revolver action.

No doubt about it, NCG. Shooting a revolver is always fun!
And lately whenever you've talked about your new DW715, I'm always ready to get out and rotate that revolver cylinder, too.

Nope, my .38 Special is both DA and SA. Very rare that I shoot SA; almost 100% of the time DA happens. Might use SA to do a quick check on my sight acquisition, as I probably have the gun a little steadier on target. That's about it. Here is a photo showing the exposed hammers on both of my LCR revolvers. To me a revolver looks kind of nekkid without seeing the hammer. PT7

Are those original grips?

Yes they are original, Wiz.

Both my .38 Special and .22 Magnum came with the Hogue Tamer Monogrip. That's a feature I really like, because this grip fits very comfortably in my larger hand. My gun-hand pinky doesn't "dangle" below the grip, and that really helps steady the gun and control recoil, too. Of course, there is negligible recoil with the .22 Magnum. But using +P ammo in the .38 Special, it can get a little rowdy at times!

Okay. From what I recall on the Ruger web site, most all of the LCR and LCRx models have Hogue grips. What model do you have? I'm guessing you may have changed your original grips to get the possibly bigger/longer 3-inch one?

It would be cool to see a picture of your revolver.

here's some pics ( I hope). Only draw back to putting on bigger grips is that the gun won't fit in my jeans front packet anymore.

Cool pictures comparing the grips, Wiz. I didn't realize that there was that much of a difference between your model's stock grips and the after-market Tamer.

Re. jeans front pocket carry. At times I have my EDC riding along that way. This may not work for you, but thought I'd send it your way for possible consideration. I had bought a sticky holster for my Bond Arms derringer. https://bondarms.com/shop/holsters/sticky-holster/ It worked pretty well. I just decided one day to see how it would fit & carry my LCR revolver. It fit well, but as you noted, the longer grips "peek out" a little at the top of a jeans pocket. I usually wear my summer shirts out, or a sleeveless vest for EDC. So the grip is completely covered and my preferred way for EDC. The plus is that the sticky holster works nice, and for the most part, keeps the revolver pretty stable in the pocket. That's because it's "sticky."

Just never know what you're getting in a holster, however. BA didn't provide the size specs of the holster. Since it was designed for use with their derringers, I took the chance, and the derringer fit just fine. Mine fit best with a 3-1/2' barrel attached, but wasn't good at all with my 4-1/2" barrel in .357 magnum. This meant the derringer EDC was an O/U two-shot 9MM. Then decided to try my LCR revolver. Since my LCR has a 3" barrel, I had a pretty good fit. So I can EDC either of my LCRs using the sticky. Nice to have options.

Probably too much info your way....but one never knows!
