SmokeWagon Range Report

I got to the range on Friday and only brought my Uberti/Taylors SmokeWagon .357 revolver.

I had been plagued by the screw on the ejector assembly loosening to the point that I had to tighten it every time I fired more than 20 rounds. Once, when it was very new, the screw came all the way out and the assembly shot forward about 5 feet. Luckily, I found all of the parts and bought a tube of Uncle Mike's Gun-Tite Resealable Adhesive to try to lock it down. I followed the directions to remove any oil as best I could, but after several applications following as many trips to the range, that screw just kept coming loose.

A few weeks ago, still looking for a solution, I bought a tube of Loctite 243 Blue Medium Strength Threadlockers. Well, it seems to have done the trick. That screw remained tight after firing 50 rounds. I was thrilled. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to stay put.

Here is one of two targets from this trip. I'll get a bit more practice with it next week, but I was pleased with this session considering how long it's been since I've been shooting.

I fired standing, offhand and one handed at 7 yards. This is the better of the two targets.

That's great, CT. Yeah, one thing about Colt clones, they have a problem with screws working loose. Lost one of the trigger guard screws on my Pietta 357 and had to order another one. I also went with the blue loc-titie and it really does help. Love the one-hand shooting. I need to practice more of that, myself.

it most certainly is .... good shooting .... based on a recommendation from gunsmith, I use Loctite 222 Purple Low Strength Thread Locker for most all firearms screws .... he told me it is perfect for small, fine thread screws .... it holds well and can be removed without damage to the screw's head or its threads

I happen to have a tube on order from Amazon right now .... I need it to lock down the scope mounting screws on our 44 Mag ====> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002 ... UTF8&psc=1

Sweet shooting sir. Keeping parts from flying off is a plus. I had the front sight on a rifle pop off once.

I have the same problem with my Ruger Blackhawk. Although I have not done it yet, I’m told that the fix is to shorten the screw a bit.

For the first application, I applied a very little amount to the screw, itself. Sadly, after firing another 50 rounds yesterday, that screw came loose again. Today, I'll add a bit more, possibly to the threads in the barrel. I'll keep you posted.

Does one "shorten the screw a bit" with a file? I'd hate to screw it up!

I have had the same issue with several single action revolvers. I now always use a generous amount of blue Loctite on all the screws. Never tried the purple, that may be better. I generally re-apply it after taking of the ejector rod housing for a thorough cleaning. I have never had them come loose after using the blue Loctite.
