At last I have had the opportunity to try my Big Boy 45 Colt at the range. The weather here in southern Sweden is still cold, windy and rainy, but I could not wait any longer for better weather. This is the first time I shoot a rifle with buck horn sights and the first three rounds, well they were not grouped at all. But after a couple of rounds I learned how the sights work, the next rounds were more tight. I have to say a stable and fun rifle to shoot. I shot from 25 meters, wich is roughly 27 yards.

How do you like using the buckhorn sights? Have you other rifles with different type of sights? The buckhorns look really nice on Henry rifles, but I've had to always change them, and usually use a Skinner rear ghost-ring sight. The ghost-ring really helps these elder eyes to get on target!

Do you have photos of your BB, as well as your targets? Everyone would like to see them.

Well, I guess the good part is that you did get out. Now, you can plan for your next outing. I would say a upside of open sights is field of view. The way I see it, the more tools in the tool box increases the chances of a positive outcome.

Good for you. The 45 Colt is a nice shooting round out of a rifle and of course, it has such a great tradition and history.

I like the buckhorn sights, they are easy to use after som practise I have a couple of other rifles, one mauser K98 from 1936 with classic iron sights and I also have a ZF41 scope for it, great gun to shoot. No pictures this time, but I'll take some next time at the range, spring is coming so I hope for some great days at the range.

Good for you! My son-in-law shoots his Henry .45-70 quite well with the buckhorns, too. I sure wish I could use them. But have to do what I can to drop the bullets at the right place!
