Back to the range today!

As many of you know, my wife of forty-four years was very sick with cancer and passed away in July. The last several years have been very difficult and the honor of caring for her at home and losing her in my arms was nothing short of profound. I am still coping with it. I cry everyday. But, today I took a big step forward and renewed my range membership and fired my BBB and SA revolver for the first time in 13 months. I was anxious and more than a bit nervous, but given my lack of practice, I shot OK. As I get a little more practice, I'll post my targets. Until then, I'm just pleased to have resumed my retirement hobby.

Glad you got out. But, I suspect it not too bad. Like riding a bicycle, somethings are second nature. I know when I was being certified to carry firearms as a correctional officer, we were told that a habit was formed after repeating an action about 250 times. So, we had to fire the revolver 500 times to ensure muscle memory. This was done over a two week period during daylight and twilight hours. The M16 was used during that time also. We only shot about 250 rounds from it though. We had to man the towers as well. That was in 2005. I decided to change careers by 2007. I took my revolver to the range in 2016 (I finally had time and found one close by), and it was like I had just shot it yesterday. I think I was at about 15 yards and hitting center mass. But, the outing was more for me to shoot my new at the time Marlin 336W.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Words can't express the empathy for what you endured. Glad to hear you got back out on the range and I'm sure it will be a positive step for you.

My wife of 43 years passed away a little over a year ago after a long battle with cancer so I know what you are going through. It is hard for me to shoot and post about it so I tend not to do so. Time does heal all wounds and each day gets better. It is difficult to remember the past but also know that it is the past and another future is before you.

CT,

I am sorry to be reminded you lost your love. (My memory issues.. ) I am happy to hear you are moving forward a bit, and range therapy is a good move. It gives you a chance to focus only on the task at hand. Front sight, trigger control...

Good luck. Post some targets when you are ready.
