It's a crisp day in southwest Alberta, 28F and still no snow. Headed out on the trail this morning looking for rustlers. 3 of 'em. Took them all down with my 1860 Henry in 45 Colt. Oddly enough they all lined up at about 50 yards, so I just kept pouring lead into them until I was sure they were well ventilated.
Three 8" targets at 50 yards, off hand standing. Sellier & Bellot 45 Colt LFN ammo. 50 rounds total. I set these 3 varmints about 6" apart on the board and just kept moving from 1 target to the other. Tried to just SHOOT. Not much time between rounds, although not rapid fire either. I just want to get to a point where I can point and shoot with some confidence that it will hit where I want it. These are not splash targets so I really had no idea where the holes were until I was done. I like the splash ones way better. If I could see the hits I could have corrected many of these. But....I wouldn't see the holes in the rustlers either until they were dispatched, so it is what it is.

I don't mind this ammo, but the Winchester is still my favorite. Sure do love my rifle though....

Whoa, there, cowboy! That is some amazing work with that 1860 rifle of yours (as always). Never ceases to amaze me what you can do with that 45 Colt of yours. By the way, don't think you need 8" targets by the looks of the groups. You'd be keeping most of them in the black with half that size. Cheaper, too.

Yeah, those splatter targets will spoil you. Pretty much all we shoot, now. At 50 yards with a scope, I can see the hits as I go.

As for snow, we'll be glad to send you all you want. Cold, too. When Gene pulled in our driveway, this morning, for his visit, it 2 above zero (F).

Just east of us here, there are fire bans on again. Snow on the way this week I heard. Hope so. Thanks for the kind words, I may just try some smaller targets next time. These were just cheap thin paper, last time I used them I walked out to the 50 yard board and by the time I got back to shoot the wind had ripped it to shreds....

Badger looks disappointed that you didn't take a few shots off of him he wants to get some credit to.

tad low, tad left .... on a rustler size target, job well done .... on a dinner plate size rustler, job well done

That's Dakota but no worries, he won't hold it against you.

It was 38 with 2" of snow on the ground here today,I thought that was to cold to go shoot.
I guess if I want to shoot all year round I'll have to do as a Canadian does.

Tomorrow looks like a high of 20F...will be horseback for a few hours...will try to get a photo or two...wool coat, wool cap and angora wooly chaps time! Brrrr....

they are calling for a high here tomorrow of 56 and a high on Christmas Day of 72 .... sure hope they are right about that one ..

When I got Ruby back from her 30 day training (I thought I could gentle break her myself but soon found out it was beyond my ability) it was late Fall and her trainer said I could not quit riding her through the Winter if I wanted her to remember her training.

Worst part was cold feet, found out early on that wearing bulky Sorrels when riding was not a good idea. Now I use these toe warmers if I'm going to be out in the cold for any length of time, they really do help keep your feet warm.

I wear winter riding boots good to 15 below zero. Colder than that I stay by the woodstove!

Good shooting, great report, and great photos as always.

I love steel plates. Great instant feedback, easier to see the hits as well as hear them. Plus, they are reusable. I buy cheap spray paint, $0.99 per can. More expensive stuff doesn't work any better and seems to clog up the valve sooner. But, would Dakota mind the extra weight?

Unfortunately no steel plates allowed at our range. Too bad. Would love to ring some.
