I'm new to this Henry 44 mag. and I need some info on sighting it in. With my muzzleloaders I start at 25 yards and it works to be about 1" high at 50 and about 2" low at 100 yards. With the muzzleloaders I can just add about 10 more grains of power and be right there at 100yards. My question, at what yardage should I start with to be close at 50 yards? I am looking to end up with a dead center at 100 yards when I am done.

If it was me I would shoot it at all three. But I do that with all of mine even muzzleloaders. I use 25 yards just to make sure my windage and elevation is close. At 25 yards bullet arch on many guns is usually low. For most all of my leverguns I sight them in at 50 yards with iron sights. Al

Thanks BigAl, I do plan to shoot all 3 ranges and I always start at 25. I was just wondering where it should be at 50. After all shooting is over half the fun.

if you have access to a chronograph, you can determine the muzzle velocity .... once that is determined you can easily look up the anticipated trajectory .... all that being said, the only way to know for sure is to fire at those ranges .... once I get the scope/sights zeroed at 10-15 yards, I fire at 25 and adjust as needed .... back up to 50 and zero about an inch high .... from there go to 100 and adjust as necessary

If you have a smartphone I'd recommend installing Hawke Chairrgun Pro.

Know your muzzle velocity, bullet weight, scope height if you have one mounted. Input the requested data and input your desired zero and you'll get you PBR and your bullet drop.

Here is my setup for my 12" barrel 44 mag:



As you can see here with my setup and dulex reticle I've got PBR between 26 yards to 54 yards... just aim and squeeze the trigger.


At 100 yards I have a 4.2" drop.


All you have to do is experiment and change the "Far Zero" number and review the graph for POI v Range.

After that you 'll need to confirm with a few rounds down range.
