Good day at the range.

Decided at the last minute to head to the range today. Weather was beautiful!

Best of all I had what seems to be the favorite ammo of both guns I took! :D :D :D :D

Started with the Golden Boy 22. Lately I've been using the federal auto match bulk ammo. This seems to shoot real nice in the GB and the price is reasonable.

Shot at 50 yds off a bench.

I like how I traced the ring on this one. Believe me I wasn't trying to do that!

Next up is my brass 45/70 and some handloads.

The rifle seems to really like these rounds. Nice moderate load with just enough punch to remind you it's a 45/70 but not punishing at all.

Starline brass, Berry's copper plated 350 gr rnfp, 15 grs of Trail Boss powder.

I'm really liking this powder. Good case fill makes for consistent measuring, speeds, and POI.

Recently chrono'd 18 of these. Avg speed of 1059 fps. If I take off 1 extreme at the top and 2 at the bottom the spread in speed is only about 30fps. The extremes were about 10+fps out from that each way.

The bull was 1st shot after I adjusted my sights back from 100 yd set from last range trip.

So far the gun likes this load better than anything I've run through it. Or maybe it's just that I shoot this load better. I was seeing well today. Not always the case. This was one of those days when I knew as soon as I had shot if I was off and where. I've really been concentrating on front sight fixation and my follow through lately.

Both guns have Skinner rear and Lyman globe front sights. All targets at 50 yards.

I really enjoy seeing big holes link up into one really big hole .. 8-) .. right now I'm trying to come up with a load for 300, 400, 500 grain hunting bullets .... once that is complete I hope to move to developing a Cowboy Action level practice bullet load .... having a knee replaced has slowed the progress ... I have 60 rounds (20 for each weight) ready for testing .... hopefully things will work out to where I'm able to send them down range next week

You got that subject line right on, Squatch, just like the POIs in your targets!
Especially fun to see that hole taking out the bull, isn't it? ;)

Very cool range report. 8-) Great shooting with both Henrys.

Thanks folks. I really like the consistency I'm getting with this powder. So far in both the 44 mag and the 45/70 Trail Boss with Berry's copper plated bullets have been the best of my moderately light loads. Though the copper plated bullets are a little slower than a similar load with the MBC coated lead.

My MBC 405gr loads with Trail boss are very similar to black powder loads for the 45/70.
