August 25th 1860

Post by RanchRoper » Fri Aug 25, 2017 9:56 pm

No wind! The 1860 Henry at 50 yards off hand standing. 50 rounds of Black Hills 250 gr LFN. Very still night. Had the range to myself. A little low but better than the last time. Rifle works beautifully. Time for a new backboard... :)

My phone takes the pic correctly, and it views on the phone correct. But then it loads it sideways. One of life's mysteries. Luckily, JEBar is a master of all things right side up. Thanks!

Fine, fine shooting, once again, RR, all the more so with open sights. I still love to shoot open sights on some of the rifles, especially the CZs, but my eyes fatigue, quickly, now, plus August is one of the worst months for me as far as allergies. Hard to shoot with puffy, swollen eyes. Even peep sights have been touch and go this month. Fortunately, the red dots make a very doable substitute without the need to resort to a scope, but a red dot on a gun like that would more than a little out of place.

Thanks. I tried out some new "anti-fog" safety glasses last night, and they seem to be better. The other ones I have fog up bad on these warm evenings. My right eye is still pretty good for long distance and that's the one I aim with. Oddly enough I think I'm left eye dominant though. But I wear reading glasses at 60 so I guess I'm doing ok. Doc says use the readers as long as I can. I looked through a rifle at the range last week that had a scope on it. Sure brings that target up close. I've never seen a red dot used at our range yet, but then I'm by myself most of the time there anyway. When I do see anyone they are usually shooting .22's or SKS's.

That is very impressive shooting. A 50 Rd stand and shoot grouping to be proud of.
Cool rifle too!
