Hot Day On The Range

today was a hot one in our part of NC .... the "Heat Index" was listed at 103 and I believe every degree of it .... we decided to setup 2 10 X 10 tents and spend the day shooting handguns at 25 yards .... 4 shooters firing an assortments of 9mm Glocks, a Sig Sauer 9mm, a 357 Ruger GP100, 2 of the latest generation of Ruger semi automatic 22's, and our Redhawk 44mag .... for the most part we were firing at metal spinners .... this was the first outing at new 140 yd range our oldest son is building .... we need to enlarge the backstop before we feel comfortable moving to rifle fire at longer ranges .... unsure how many rounds were fired but it had to be in the thousands .... 90 rounds were fired from our Redhawk, first time in many moons I've seen its barrel heat up to where you wouldn't want to hold onto it for very long .... sorry, no pictures .... I have to admit, I forgot to take my camera .. ..

first picture, after firing 90 rounds yesterday .. .. second picture, after cleaning today .. .. best thing found during cleaning, ZERO lead in the barrel .. .. the Redhawk's Aimpoint is sighted in for its hunting load using 240 gr Nosler JHP's .... since its highly unlikely that I'll need any hunting rounds in the foreseeable future, the next time we go out I want to resight both our Redhawk and Henry for these practice rounds .... with the recoil reduction from having the Redhawk Mag-na-ported make our practice rounds a pleasure to shoot

earlier today I took our grandson and his Henry 357 along with our Henry 44 mag to a friend's range .... it was hot, heat index well over 100 degrees .... our grandson shot well .... he routinely broke skeet at 50 yards and after a bit of practice broke skeet placed flat so that the edge was all that could be seen .... I spent the most time ever firing our 44 at 100 yards .... I was firing our reloads with 240 gr Missouri Bullet 240 gr RNFP lead bullets, pushed by 7.2 gr of Bullseye .... the target below shows my first 30 rounds .... the bullet hole marked #1 was the first bullet fired, after which I adjusted the 2.5X10 Nikon Prostaff scope .... the hole marked #2 was the second round fired and clearly indicated I over corrected so I readjusted the scope .... the other area circled shows the following 28 rounds .... that was the only paper target I fired, after that I shot at skeet and did manage to do pretty well on those placed flat with only their edge showing .... all of my shots were from a table on which I had rest for the barrel ( no sand bags or other rest for the rest of the rifle ) .... little to no wind .... all in all I fired over a hundred rounds, most at skeet and metal targets

I can only wish I had fired that target at 100 yards with a revolver but that's not the case .... at 25 yards, from a bench rest, I usually can .... every once-in-a-while I have fired similar groups at 50 yards .... I've never done so beyond 50 yards .... the target shown above was fired with our Henry BBS (H012) 44 Mag .... since the picture below was taken we have upgraded the scope from a Nikon 3X9 to a 2.5X10 Prostaff .... its heavy but has really proven to be a good mate for the rifle

kind words appreciated but sadly they aren't justified .... that target wasn't fired by a handgun .... it was fired using our Henry 44 mag rifle
