I gambled it wouldn't be raining after an hour drive to the range and I was right, no wind, slight overcast and no rain.

These two Rugers finally got to make some noise after sitting quietly for a couple of years. The rifle has an Overton stock and is all original except for the vintage Weaver 4X Marksman scope. The five digit serial number dates it to 1966. The pistol was made from a Charger and I shoot it like I do my Henry Mare's Legs. The barrel is a cut-down SS Ruger rifle barrel and the trigger is from Hornet. It has one of the best triggers on any of my 10/22's / Chargers. The scope is a Weaver Classic Rimfire 2.5-7 x 28MM. All 10-shot targets were bench rest at 50 yards.

I shot the rifle first. Left is Federal Auto-Match at .814", right is Norma Tac-22 at .773". The Charger was next. Auto-Match on the left shooting 1.249". It really didn't like the Federal but the Norma gave me a .784" group.

I especially like the darker wood on your rifle, SH. And the Vintage Weaver is perfect on it...looks like it grew there!
Never having shot a Mare's Leg or shorter "pistol" like you have, hard for me to imagine what it would be like to handle it.
The ML always has interested me.

Great POIs on those targets, especially the Normas shot from the Charger. Very nice "tiny" group!

Excellent shooting with the Charger. You made it before you started collecting Henry's as I recall.

Sir Henry, do you have any stock Ruger 10/22 Chargers? They aren't available in CA so I've never actually seen one in person. They look cool though. Most videos I've seen guys shooting them with a mounted bipod.

I have two. One is this Charger/Mare's Leg and the other one is the new takedown model.

In CA they are considered pistols which means they need to be on our approved handgun roster controlled by the state. Since they don't have the ability to 'microstamp' on the cases which is a new requirement as of last year they will never be added to the roster. Anyway, long story short... no mares legs or 10/22 Chargers for me! Until I move... then I'll buy one of each because I can!

Semi-auto rifles knock over coffee cups when they eject the brass.

It felt funny to shoot a semi-auto. Bolts and levers have been my constant for the last few years.

It seemed like everyone I knew from 1975 to 1990 had a 10-22. How I did not end up with one is a mystery.
