A little Pepper to spice up the range this morning!

Finally a nice dry day to get the grass cut at the range and found some time to get the first shots of my 1851 Pepperbox 36 BP shooter.
First time I have messed with loading the cylinder and ramming in a lead ball and it was fun and no need to get in a hurry. Had made my own loading stand for the cylinder and it worked very well.
Okay first some shots on a large paper target and see where it hits and it was high and right. So I give the thing some downward tilt while keeping about same area of target and it gets lower and later predictable. Put a couple ball shots on the cowboy target and what do ya know a good ball shot! and another not too far off... good shooting with this thing! Then another trip to my target shack for a reload and look for a fun target....a can!
One shot and a dead can from15-20 ft. not bad...dang good for not having a barrel with a sight! :D

Really liked shooting the Pepperbox and only issue was like when using caps I would have a primer back out under the hammer after that round was fired and jam up. Think the hammer bounces a bit off the primer when fired and sometimes it will hang up rotation but easy to pic out.

Was using 15 gr. by volume of Black MZ and could possibly go up to 17 which is max with Pyrodex with real black at 22 gr.

Enjoyed it made a lot of smoke and clean up was simple with Ballistol.

That is certainly an interesting gun. I've read about pepperboxes, but never knew someone actually makes a reproduction.

I like the new grips forty, sounds like a fun range session and accurate enough for it's purpose back in the day.
Can just about imagine that smell. ;)

Yeah will get it back out again and hopefully I can get my Son to come along one Sunday for some fun with it. I found a Youtuber who shoots these guns and he told me he may have an extra holster for it that I can have since I can't find one for it and nothing I have fits that long cylinder.
I think the birds head grip makes the gun! Be a good backup gun for sharp shooter RR !

Another thing...If that cylinder were made of tool steel could you say a Magnum 36 with all that room for powder as that ball was way down the bore! :D

Looks like fun times right there.

That cowboy target will be singing soprano from here on out. Ouch!
