300 gr 44 Mag test and a bit of bear hunting....

Worked up a load especially for my Uberti 1873 Winchester to shoot a 300 gr. 44 Mag load. The load is based on .44 Special brass to keep the COL under 1.600 where it ended up at 1.580. Powder was 11 gr. of 2400 which is down from 15 gr. when using standard Magnum brass.
The Winchester ate them up with no issues with feeding or ejecting....smooth as hot butter! With my Magnaspeed chrony hooked up the loads were all in the 1100 FPS range which is great for easy plinking with a heavy chunk of lead and very mild to shoot.
Nice 4 shot group from 30 yds. just to see where it would hit from a standing position and very happy with that. Only loaded up 15 rounds to try and will load more. They shot clean with just some powder or coating particles in the bore....great!
Modified Mr. Bear target with a hanging 4 inch plate and set him up for a few hits. Got 3 good hits on the steel from 45 yd kneeling position....cool!
Had bear propped up but that 300 gr slug would tumble him right down every time when you hit him in the target spot.
So the 2 loads I like now for this rifle is my 200 gr. Xtreme plated load with 9 gr. Unique which runs around 1150-1200 FPS and this new 300 gr load moving at 1120 FPS. Both easy on the somewhat hard to find 44 Mag version of the 1873 carbine. A keeper!
