Short report, 265gr 45's

Post by Vaquero » Sat Dec 10, 2022 9:33 am

Yesterday I was trying to test the these loads when I was beckoned.
But I did get a few through the Marlin Cowboy and Rossi 92, and the Vaquero.
The rifles were from the picnic table, so around 55yds., and the revolver from 10 yds.
Getting harder and harder on these open sites. πŸ˜ͺ
First round from the Rossi wasca little high, then I managed a decent group just a tad low.
Then the Cowboy, I really need to shoot this one more than I do. Still getting used to the cheap peep. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ was shooting at the right dot, all were VERY High. Looks like 3 together one loner, and a pair plum off the paper but still together.
Then the Vaquero first was high, then the three together just above the dot.
Tha last two low were real quick, almost like a double tap.😁
Depending on weather I will try to get a few through the BH.
But all in all I like the load, oh of which is,
8.8 grs of unique.
Thanks to forty for that info.

Glad to see you had a chance to test that load thru a variety of shooters Randy. I have shot that load before after finding a partial box of them in my ammo cabinet. Loading some 45 Colt now and will fill that half empty box. That Unique is a good powder for .45 Colt but I might try that bullet with Red Dot just to see what it does since I have a good supply of it. Nice tight groups there too!

Looks very promising indeed Randy! That Marlin sure seemed to like it. With 8.8gr Unique and the 265gr bullet, how the revolver feel?

Surprisingly, not bad at all.
I've shot some warm 250 gr loads that were more of a handful.

Yep that load should be at the top of the 45 Colt standard pressure. I forgot what guns I was shooting it out of. Another excuse to shoot it again! :D
