9-7-2016: H001 AT 100 Yards

I have a question. How accurate can I expect my H001 to be at 100 yards? A friend, who is an outstanding shooter, and I were at the range today. I put a scope on my Henry, and we got it zeroed.

My friend had his CZ 452 with him today, and he was able to shoot <1 inch groups with it at 100 yards. Can my Henry approach results like that if I do my job?

A new range just opened near me with a 50 yd section, it
will be my first time past 25 yds! Can't wait!

Unfortunately, I was out of ammo today before I could find out.

A hundred yards is no problem if you take the time to find the most accurate 22 ammo for your rifle. (They all seem different.) and you can see the sights.

My grandson shot a handful of prairie dogs near 100 yards with his Henry 22. He soon discovered they are more fun to blow up with a 223 than to poke a hole in them with a 22 LR.

Full disclosure, I do not own one. What I have experienced with 22lr is at 100 yards grouping shots can be difficult due mostly to ammo. If you find quality 22lr ammo it is more likely to see those results improve. If you stick with bulk pack you will most likely get a few fliers. Again, that is my experience with 22lr in general not the H001 but it should hold up.

Even with the best ammo you can't expect to get anything better than three inch groups with an H001.

I haven't done any 100 yd work with my H001. I would, however, have to say that the CZ comparison is apples to oranges. The H001 is not designed as a high accuracy gun. It is designed as a plinking weapon, and a small game hunting weapon. The CZ was designed more for accuracy.

I find the accuracy of my H001 to be quite acceptable out to the max of 25 yds that the indoor range I use maxes out at. I have been able to get 5 round groups at 20 - 25 yds that have all holes touching. That is shooting from a bench rest, with a 3-9x Nikon scope. Also indoors, no wind, and using CCI SV ammo. Most of the time my daughter and I shoot it either free standing, or elbows propped on the bench, using whatever ammo is available.

I also find that ammo is critical. For me, the CCI standard velocity is the best, without getting into the expensive match ammo I have not tried yet.

I know that our sons take out stationary skeet out at 100 yards with their stock Ruger 10-22's .... with skeet being several inches across, that doesn't require pinpoint accuracy
