It’s clear blue skies today with no wind so after shoveling my driveway I dug out my namesake and shot at the spinners. You can see my tracks up to the spinners even though they are out of sight. Henry SGC wearing a Nikon P-Rimfire 2-7 x 32 and a Rio Bravo custom lever.

Getting in the groove there, PARDNER.

Definitely a much nicer day after a week of stormy weather. We went out for a nice ride on the recumbent trikes. We'll try some shooting tomorrow.

I was able to work outside up against the house in the sunshine wearing a t-shirt. I’m so ready for spring. I would settle for just being able to get out of my driveway.

Gene, spring is the most unpredictable season up here in northern Wisconsin. Really is no normal as to when it arrives and it's only getting more unpredictable. Hang in there.

It’s melted back this far twice before just to get dumped on again. I’m not holding my breath this time.

Joanie I have crocuses coming up through the snow so that is promising. I’m told that when the snow is gone the ground can still be frozen for another month. Especially if it’s in the shade.

Yes, in the shade of the woods melting is much slower and the air much cooler. Most years we still have patches of snow in the woods into May, not to mention getting light snow in May.

Memorial Day is the frost-free date up here, so most people who want vegetables like tomatoes start them indoors to get a head start. Even then, a lot of years we still have a bunch of green tomatoes when frost hits in the fall. If you do plant a garden or shrubs, be sure to put up serious deer fencing or you'll just be feeding the deer. So called "deer resistant" plants are a joke.

Main agricultural activity for us is logging, by far, mostly pulp wood. Farm crops are cranberries, some potatoes and hay. We have to travel at least 40 or 50 miles south to see a corn field.

Lake country, over here. Our county has 1100 named lakes and Vilas County to the north has even more. If you like to fish, this is paradise. Visit the St. Croix factory rod factory just north of you when you get a chance.

Highly recommend you do NOT feed birds in the summer unless you like getting real friendly with bears. And be sure to take that grill in at night.

Summers are short and oh, so sweet up here so make the best of them.

Joanie I saw a bear track down by the main road yesterday. People are reporting bear sightings and bird feeders torn down. Everyone is telling me to only feed the birds in the winter. Same as Woodinville.

I put my barbecue in the garage and will cook in it. It will be near the big roll up door so I won’t have to move it and it won’t fill up the garage with smoke or consume all of the oxygen. If I do have to move it it won’t be far. I’m not going to cook near the house although the garage is just another 30 feet.

In the meantime I’m going to try to get the van out of the driveway.
