A quick trip to the range on a windy cold night. Shooting 50 yds off hand in the wind is always a challenge but if I wait for the wind to quit around here I'll never shoot. Guess it's real world conditions so I tell myself anyway. The funny part was, some guys with SKS rifles were just cleaning up as I arrived, and after they were done oohing and aawwing over my Henry they set up a rock on top of the 50 yd board and said see if I can hit it so they could see the Henry in action. FIRST shot split the rock and sent it to the ground. I'd rather be lucky than good any day. Haha!

lucky as the result of solid practice .... what ammo have you determined serves your wants/needs

Winchester 250 gr lead flat nose perform the best I think. Hornady 255 gr LFN are 2nd. Just cowboy action loads. They sure don't seem wimpy to me. That old rock split clean in half.

Congratulations, even with the wind it seems like you are getting quite proficient with your Henry.

understood on Cowboy Action level loads .... unless the day comes that we take it hunting, that's pretty much all we shoot in our 45-70, 44 and 357 .... it doesn't take a Big Bear load to punch a hole in paper or as you have proven, to bust a rock ..

After following your regular Range Reports, and often seeing your target results, "luck" is not the reason you split that rock.

And your practice in "real world conditions" is an important factor. Keeping on target, or on rock, will help if you ever face a grizzly that also needs to be "split and sent to the ground." Keep on doing well on those windy range days. It is paying off big time. Great job!
