Range Report: Crosman 17 Shockwave

I drove into Medford for a latte and stopped at the LGS. I stopped there last week and he said he was getting some airguns in on Wednesday. I brought home a Model CS7SXS Crosman.
The scope was mounted at a cant so I had to adjust that before shooting. It shot 6” low and to the right at 20 feet. The scope is a 4x32 with a 1/4” at 100 yards MOA so it took a lot of clicks and shots to get it zeroed. It still needs some fine adjustment. My arm gave out and told me to give it a rest.

It was in the teens last night and it’s 37 now. It will freeze at night and hit the 40’ for the next ten days. I just shoveled ice and slush off the driveway.

We're definitely in what I call icicle season. That's when temps go above freezing by day and below freezing at night. e get some amazing icicles hanging from our roof.
Be careful with those nitro piston guns at that power level. For whatever reason, gas piston guns are harder on scopes than spring piston guns and that goes double at that power level. My only experience with a Crosman NP was pretty miserable. Very hard to shoot with any consistency and it destroyed the cheap scope in 50 shots. One thing that will help is to use 177 heavy pellets. Stay away from light 177 pellets.
If you want to go piston gun, I heartily recommend the HW30/R7. Absolute joy to shoot. Easiest to shoot piston gun ever made and you can shoot it all day long and never get tired. Superb trigger and it will last a lifetime. My most used and favorite air gun out of our large airgun collection. In fact, we have two, one with a peep and the other with a scope.

I was shooting light wadcutters. I have some heavy hunting pellets and will dig them out. I’m still not fully unpacked.

Heavy in 177, by the way, typically refers to the 10 plus grain stuff, but there are super heavy 177s in 13 grains or so.

I bought a bunch of different pellets a year or so ago.
Most the most part I shoot lighter wadcutters. I brought out the heavy artillery for the new Crosman.

I shot the Shockwave and couldn’t hit the gong at 20 yards. Then I bought out the Avanti and could hit it almost every time. I was shooting kneeling.

I got out the Red Ryder and plunked at 5 yards into a trap. I like this trap because I don’t get richochets.

The snow has enough crust that I can walk on it without punching through.
