I've been postponing shooting my 45's because of low supply of large pistol primers. Well the other day I put together a batch of 45 ACP small pistol brass loads. I've got plenty of small pistol primers so why not. I'm loading 4.3 gr. of TiteGroup being a 230 gr. lead round nose bullet at 1.260" COL. This has been my go to load for 45 for about 20 years (don't change what works). The small primer 45 ACP brass works perfectly. No noticeable difference and they shoot to the same point of impact.

Today I just ran thru a bunch of practice drills on my steel targets. Since I still shoot IDPA competition I like to do practice drills for speed and accuracy. The first picture below is my range set up. The plates are at 11-12 yds. and the silhouettes ar set about 15 yards,

My two 1911's I shot today. Top pistol is a Les Baer Premier II and the bottom is my Springfield Armory TRP.


I burned thru 200 rounds very fast, but had a great day. Weather was just about perfect 55 F and warmed to a little over 60 F. Now that I have some 45 ACP ammo I can use, without burning up my last large pistol primers, I'll be doing more 45 shooting.

Great to see someone shooting. I can't wait to finish my range here and put some rounds down range. I'm not competing any longer: (PPC / GSnSF) but was shooting an average of ten thousand rounds a year in practice and actual competition. I was on the low end in my group. A number of the competitors were shooting PPC, IPSC, IDPA, Bullseye, High Power, and Shotgun. (Skeet, Trap, and Sporting Clay) .Yup, retired, and single, they shot every weekend and indoor matches during the week in the evenings.

I miss shooting... Not all the travel around the state.

That is a nice neat target setup Paul and a fine pair of 1911's too! Warm weather coming next week so I can get down to my range again.

Nice pistolas Paul and great range set up. Here is a 22 idea for you with the same set up. Get your drill out and drill some golf tee size holes in the top of that board. Insert tees in the holes and set golf balls on top and see who can drive the balls the farthest with the 22. Just a thought

I compete to keep moving. I getting old and slow, but I still have fun.

Get that range done so you can burn up some powder and have fun.

That's a great Idea. I still have a bag of old golf balls hanging around from when I played the game. I quit after my back surgery. Now I have something useful for all those old golfballs.

Oh, believe me, it's my plan. I have several guns to sight in, and several old friends who miss me terribly. (P220, Model 64 Smith, my Match 1911...). The feeling is mutual. I was unloading the railroad ties for the berm when I fell and broke my wrist in two places. Complications have hampered recovery, but I am almost ready to get started on the range again.

Paul, glad the spp .45acp's worked out for you.Never had a problem with mine. No difference at all.
