Well it didn't take long. It think the tombstone should read "Here lies my spinner Big Al, apparently no match for the .50 Cal"

A little Halloween themed range report, I was shooting my Frontier .50 with a .490 lead ball, .010 patch, and 55 grains of Triple 7. No wind, which is why I was able to get on target sometimes. However, I need a more robust spinner or I need to be a better shot. Hit the frame a few times, took off the head of one of the carriage bolts, and the one that hit between the 2 circles knocked it flying. Out of 10 shots I did manage to nail it a few times. When you do it spins quite well. I also didn't have it down in the ground enough either. Live and learn.
It is back from the grave though, just put it back together with new bolts, straightened it out too. :)

100 yds off hand, not bad for an old fella...

Love the photos!

Must be something going around, my son shot through the frame of a similar spinner of mine yesterday with a 357 Magnum, broke it right good. He's a welder & planned to mend it, but told him not to bother after seeing what good hits did to it:

Wasn't going to be long for this world anyway. Did fine with wadcutters at 850 fps from the K6s, not so much with the jacketed soft points at 1900+ from the Henry single shot.

Spinner was advertised for "up to 44 Magnum" Will give them the benefit of the doubt that they meant from typical handgun length barrels 8-)

My lead ball just basically splattered on the AR500 plate but enough impact there to take out a bolt (zinc alloy maybe?) and then finally topple it once I hit where there's no give. That's at 100 yds so those Civil War guys must have had some gruesome injuries.

A spinner like you have will not take the impact of the ball but the steel will. Put those on a chain and hang it from a frame and you should be good. Wolfman AR 500 steel would not have done that.

Patched round ball is fun, now's an excuse to get a used Lincoln buzz box 😁
