Roadside Report: plinking on paper
US380 in NM between I-25 and Capitan is an 88 mile stretch with little traffic and these nice roadside picnic tables.
I set a 50 yard small bore target out at an estimated 15 yards and I fired 17 HV shorts at it offhand.
Not the best group but I was plinking and my goal was to just hit black and I succeeded. Don’t let the big 50 yard target fool you. If I set a relative 15 yarder out it would look not so good.
I spotted this on the ground.
The table and shelter was nice but finding a spot to sit the target facing the sun was difficult. I’m packing up and going further down the road to see if the next one will make a better range.

Re: Roadside Report: plinking on paper
The first two picnic tables were the best. Not the tables but the area the other side of the fence had 5 foot swells which took me out of sight of the road. After that the land was flatter and not as much vegetation and left me fully exposed. Traffic began to pickup and I didn’t stop a third time.
Don’t forget I was shooting 50 yard targets at 15 yards so the bull was much to big. All shots were within the 7 ring. If I used the correct target half would not have been scored.

I had to climb over a barbed wire fence that was the right-of-way border. Great idea but mechanics of getting a rifle over a fence isn’t fun. The strands were close together and so where the horizontal ties to keep you from spreading them. Yes I passed the rifle through and picked it up on the over side.
