Target time with Ruger Police Service 6 and Glock 23......

Post by fortyshooter » Sun Aug 15, 2021 4:36 pm

Much better weather today so took off to the range with my Ruger Police Service Six .357 and my Glock 23 Gen 4 for some target fun.
Target distance was 10 yds and with one and two handed shooting off hand.
Load for the Ruger was 158 gr RNFP MB bullet with 6.0 gr. of Power pistol in 357 mag case. Also a hotter 357 mag load of 158 gr. XTP with 13.6 of 2400.
Seemed to shoot the the 158 Power Pistol load the best and had fun hitting steel swingers and various gongs at will. No problem with the big gong from 45 yds. The 158 XTP load you can tell is the hot one from the report and how it recoils. That would be a SD load for sure and not a plinker!
Really thinking on sending the Service Six back to Ruger for a bluing job.

The Glock 23 was my first semi-auto pistol and liked the standard weight 180 gr. Federal ammo better that the 155 gr. ammo from looking at the targets. That last target pic was of an old target used that had other shots at the bottom... todays shots in center and just to right.
Shoots well and had one Failure to Eject and that was the 155 gr. Fed. round. Glock is a nice shooter but the revolver was a bit more fun today!

Good job on a fun day, but then again any day burning powder is fun. :D

I have 2 Glock 23's. One is a Gen 2 and the other is a Gen 4. All I every shoot in them is 180 gr. rounds. I've never even tried lighter loads. They seem to like the 180's, so I just stuck with that.

Yes I usually pick up the 180 gr. loads but with the ammo shortage I happened to find the Federal 155 at the LGS. I don't reload the S&W .40

I have a pair of 23s, one of which is a 23c that Miss T claimed. Both are shooters. I picked them up after the department dropped down in size from the full sized 22, to the mid sized 23 for off duty and match use. (I also bought my G22 from the department... LOL),

The 23s shoot the 180 grain American Eagle practice ammo, and Gold Dot Duty Ammo very well. Same ammo I ordered every year in bulk for department use, just paid for a case of practice ammo out of pocket, and bought several boxes of Gold Dot.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.
