Home, home on the Rain-ge...

Finally got some much needed rain! All last night and today. Didn't stop me from going to shoot some black powder. It was 50F when I got there and raining. No wind. Before even shooting today I reached over to grab my rifle from the ready rack after setting up my stuff. Didn't notice the screw sticking through the plywood shed wall, holding the tin siding on the outside of the shed. Sticking out about an inch, I grabbed for my rifle and drove that screw right under the nail of my middle finger, tearing most of the nail off. Ouch, that's gonna leave a mark. A few cuss words later I thought about just packing up and heading home, bleeding like a stuck pig and finger turning purple. But wait!, as Ron Popiel would say. Didn't I read that the Germans used Ballistol as wound dressing back in WW1 or something? So I field dressed it, wrapped a cleaning patch around it and carried on. That'll do until I get a bandage and duct tape. It's all fixed up now that I am home.

Only got 4 shots off at 50 yds today in light rain before the rain really started hammering me. This is 60 grains of Goex, .015 patch, .490 ball. Off hand.

Wow! Once again, great shooting, as we've come to expect.
Maybe Ya oughta hurt a finger every time before shooting. :D JK of course. That hurts me just to think about it.

Wow! So that's the secret to great shooting! Next time I shoot my Henry 44 Levermatic I'll run a screw under my fingernail. Any particular size that works better? Great shooting under the distress of pain and rain RR !

RR you're amazing. After a rough start and field repair of a damaged finger you still manage to get off 4 great shots. More power to ya.

My finger is hurting just thinking about that screw.

Brass screws are best. Hey it was the right hand. Right next to my missing trigger finger. Tough on fingers I guess.

What I wanna know is did the screw survive or is it now missing.

I did not have any blunt instrument to bend it over with so it’s waiting for next victim or until I go next time with a pair of vise grips to break it off.

Great shooting, as always. I know you folks need the rain, so that's a good thing. We've been getting smoke for the last few weeks from fires top your way.

On another note…my injured finger looks remarkably better this morning. The wonders of Ballistol???? I mean it, it’s clean and looks really good….hmmmm
