Target stand ideas

Seems like every time I go to the range the target backers are all shot to hell. So I'm looking for ideas for one I can take and bring back home. Appreciate any thoughts on this. Most shooting will be like 25 to maybe 75/80 yards with my Henry BB 44 mag or 44 special. Thanks.

PVC pipe is popular for easily portable stands.

Several designs on the web, but here's a quick how-to:

That's a nice one Al ! I made each one of mine out of a pair of 8 ft. 2x4's back before the price of lumber went crazy but they last a long time.
I pick up the large foam board backing sheets from the Dollar Store for a buck each. Gives a firm backing to the target paper and just staple on.

Our local range no longer allows any steel downrange, so I opted for PVC pipe as mentioned earlier. We had some really nice target frames made from angle iron and had brackets to hang 2 X 4's or 2 X 6's to hang target backers. Some teenagers were at the range and for kicks started shooting at the angle iron frame. A bullet fragment ricocheted back and struck one of the teens. His mommy threatened a lawsuit - so no more steel down range.

Ain't that bullshit. I have rebuilt the frames at our club several times. Let someone else do it now..

I knocked this together out of some scrap 2x4’s and a new 2x10 I paid a fortune for. Backing is some very thick cardboard I scrapped out from back when I was working. The 2x4 extension is removable for transportation. My previous stand was similar but I hung the gong in the center and the bullet splatter ruined it. Hopefully by extending the gong out to the side that won’t happen again. I plan to lean a plank on the side of the stand where the gong is when I shoot. I haven’t tried it out yet because right after I built it the state DNR shut down all the outdoor shooting areas due to fire danger. It will be tippy in the wind so I plan to bring some tent stakes which I will pound into the ground for support.

The stand I suggested also has holes in it to anchor it down. I also cut some cardboard to use as a backer. I use those big paper clamps to hold it to the 1x2 rather than staples. Its light weight and easy to carry in the trunk of my car. Doesnt get used much because paper is boring

Here's the one I got, similar to the one Al has, you can use 1x2's or 2x4's.

Good ideas! I like a lighter frame to carry 50/100 yards each way.
