Marlin model 60 Range report
Marlin model 60 Range report
I have had this Marlin 60 for a long time. I had left it at my sisters house in Washington for a few years so I would have something to shoot up there in case I took the plane rather than the car. It has a Bushnell 4 power scope on it but I hadnt really ever played with the scope since I owned it. Today I decided to take it to the range as I was also taking out my BP pistol to test the new front sight I had put on it. I shot one 15 shot group with it to see where it was shooting. Ammo was Remington 40grhp with the gold coating. Its ok ammo for plinking and in no way could I ever keep up with Bandit or NCG. But this 60 isnt a bad shooter at all. I was shooting off the trunk of my car with my big sandbag as a rest. I was out about 30 yards from this target. I wanted to shoot it more but discovered that the scope had a windage adjustment dial that was really messed up from a previous owner. I bought this gun years ago for 100.00 out of a pawn shop. I had just never had a chance to play with the scope until today. I brought the gun home and put another scope that I have on it. I will see what it does with it next time out. Here is a pic of the group I did shoot.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
I had a model 60 when I was a kid; it was a great little rifle. Enjoy that old gun.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Looks pretty good to me Al, especially with the bulk ammo.
I have a model 60 I bought a few years ago, but
I haven't shot it very much.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Nice group Al ! Just get the windage to the left and be good as gold!
Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Might be tough to improve on that group, that’s some pretty good shooting with a mass production semi-auto wearing an inexpensive scope shooting bulk ammo. What’s not to like with that.
Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
It doesnt balance bad at all. But one thing I did notice for me was after taking the scope off which I did at the range I really need to bury it into my cheek to use the iron sights. I like it better with a scope on it. I have another Bushnell at home which is the one I put on it. It was on a Marlin 39a when I bought it a few years ago and I took it off right after I bought it. As I mentioned next time to the range I will put it on paper again

Pretty good group there Al! Can't wait to see how it does with a better scope. Not bad at all. Still have that 39A?

With a good zero all shots would have put rabbit in the strew. Good shooting’.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
That's fine work with the Model 60, Al. I've owned a couple 60s and have also shot my friend's Marlin Papoose, which is a take-down version of the 60. I've always been impressed with the 60's accuracy for such a no frills, budget-friendly little auto. I'll take the Marlin 60 out of the box over its competitor, the Ruger 10/22 every time for accuracy. The only reason the 10/22 has become so popular is its more modular construction which created a huge market for mod parts.
Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Yes sir Tom I still have it. Had to put a new Ejector spring in it a few years ago. Bought the gun off GB for 500.00 with a scope on it. Picked it up in Bellevue Wash when I went to my sisters back then. Kinda coincidence how it all worked out. Gun was like brand new and I wonder if the guy sold it because of the ejector issues. Works great now.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Thanks NCG. Im with you Id rather load the tube on the 60 than mess with all those magazines for a 10/22. Ive owned both and would buy another 60 if I found one in great shape.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 11:32 amThat's fine work with the Model 60, Al. Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Al, I also have a Marlin model 89c, which I believe was the predecessor to the 60.
With the little 4x Weaver it is very accurate.
I should find a similar scope for the 60 and shoot them side by side.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Good plan Randy. I still like shooting 22 alot. Especially breaking clay pigeons on the bank on the grasslands. Or chasing a tin can around. Then when you get really good like NCG and Bandit you can pick off 12 ga shells at 50 yards

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
I have noticed that any used Marlin is going for some crazy price, right now, and that includes the 60s for sure. If you find one at a resonable price, grab it while you can.
Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Recently there was a M/60 on the local trader site for $300. A year ago that would have been highway robbery. Today...........North Country Gal wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 12:18 pm![]()

I'll have to find some of those 12 gauage hulls, first.

I've seen them go for more, recently. I bet the seller will get $300.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
I bought a Marlin 60 model that was configured like a M1 carbine. Boy, was that a real shooter. It liked Winchester Wildcats the best. I gave that rifle to my son's boy for his 10th birthday. He was and is better hunter than both me and his dad. I had a 10/22 stainless and laminated stock that looked a whole like an updated M-1. I should have kept my Marlin and given the G'son the Ruger. I have no idea of the number of critters that Marlin has brought down. I just know that we never ran out of fresh small game.

Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Vaquero, send it my way! It'll be used, and modified!
Great shooting gun! I love my 60! Just got a new Bushnell 4x32. Got it brand new at a yard sale. The guy tried to use it on a Stevens? It didn't work, he just got tired of seeing it in his safe. It looked good, and alot clearer than what was on my rifle now.
I never take myself seriously....
Re: Marlin model 60 Range report
Good group, Al. A good scope & you're in business.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.
