it is almost impossible here to find a stand more than 300 m away, unfortunately! mainly military land, or at the other end of the country ...
It's a shame because it is beyond 300 yards that the 300 winmag could make the difference ...
Well, it will be possible to decrease the size of the target, to simulate, but for the horizontal drift and the ballistic curve, it will not be the same ...

Good shooting, Brunix. What is the size 9 and the 10 rings? What is your load? May be able to duplicate your load. You are sure right about the differences in shooting ranges past 300 yards. I'm lucky to live within driving distance to 500-1000 yard ranges. Wish you good luck in your shooting endeavors.

Target size:
9 is 3,93' (10 cm)
10 is 1,96' (5 cm)


reloading data :
(but with component easy to find here, i'm not sure you can found them easily, as i cant' find HODGEDON or IMR, or UNIQUE here )

it's a very soft reload, because of range rule (300 win mag is only ccepted with lowest charges)

bullet : Lapua Scenar 167 grains


Powder : Vithavuori N160 , 72.5 grains (RELOAD SWISS RS 70 seems also to be a excellent product) primer : cci # 200 large riffle (not magnum) but i wil switch to Winchester LR soon (less expensive, good product)
brass : winchester: first sizing full size, only neck sizing atfer... (rcbs neck sizer)
no crimp

very low recoil, surprising, much less hard than my marlin 45-70 ...
it must be said that the 330 grains or the 405 grains of 45-70 does not help ...
and also the GGS (German Gun stock) muzzle brake is very efficient.
With the bipod and the weight of the Tikka, it is very pleasant, contrary to what I expected ...

the only inconvenience is the speed at which the powder pot goes down

Thank-you very much. I have used VV 160 before and still have a good supply. Before the pandemic, we could easily get Lapua brass and bullets. Will try your reload data and may try on boars at 100yds or less. All this madness will soon pass.

Shooting Long Range takes alot of skill and practice. Looks like you are doing a great job. Nothing wrong with the VV powder it has a good reputation here.

this is progressing, yet started from ... nothing...!
in 2018, when I register to this forum, I had never fired a gun or carbine

we move forward with stubbornness, and also good teachers.
the instructors at my range are passionate, and reloading has also helped me a lot in understanding a lot of things, thanks to all the great advice from the members on henry Forum, who are as cool as they are knowledgeable on the subject !

The equipment is there too, I have never been able, for the moment, to progress so quickly to more than 100 yards with the 1895 marlin, which is much less designed for that than the tikka.

The absence of muzzle brake and the power of the recoil does not help to overcome the apprehension of the shot ...
Although I really like this Marlin, it is sure that if I could get my hands on a Henry X in 45-70 (or 357)with threaded barrel , here in France, I would not hesitate to change!

Considering that I am not a hunter, and that the wild boars here, although numerous, do not approach the village, and that there are no bears here ,
the 357 (or even the 44 mag) would surely be more suitable. to have fun at the shooting range ...
Maybe it will eventually be marketed (and available) here ...

lever action riffle in 357 are just starting to sell in France, given the legislation which (unlike the 44 magnum, funny ) requires you to have a B detention authorization to buy ammunition of this caliber ...
