Makin' smoke...

60's today and typical breezy day in southwest Alberta. Shooting my Pedersoli Frontier .50 cal long rifle.

55 grains of Triple 7 powder, patched .490 lead ball. Primitive fixed rear sight and the front blade I filed down awhile back.

50 yds off hand standing....one of the best targets I've shot in awhile. Started out fighting the wind, but finally got it working. Keep in mind this is a 3" target with 64 year old eyes. So I was pretty darn happy today. I think I shoot this rifle better than any other I own.

100 yds off hand standing....the wind is a tough manage but it's rarely not windy so you just have to deal with it. I was pleased with results overall.

Fun & deadly accurate rifle to shoot....shoot safe, RR

I envy your shooting RR. I wouldn't be able to see a 3" target at 50 yards let alone 100. If I could do that well off a bench with bags I'd be happy.

It might have been an NCG post where she mentioned that a small target will bring the groups in tighter. Can't recall.

Great shooting again RR! If I can hit a typical spray paint can from 50 with my 1873 Winchester .45 Colt....I call it great.

Wonderful, just wonderful, RR.

Yes, I have posted the aim small, miss small/go to smaller target concept many times, but so have others. I'm definitely not the only one. It's an old concept that has been around since before I arrived on the scene. Regardless, it does work. The flip side of this concept is to pick a small spot when shooting at a large target, but it's easier to just use a small target when you have a choice.

For me, a 3" bull is right at my limit for good iron sight shooting at 50 yards. Eye fatigue catches up pretty quick, now, so I have to keep sessions short and/or do my iron sight shooting, first in a session, then move to optical sights.

Nothing like smoke and you make nice holes with that smoke. Whens the flintlock coming
